They both have micarta handles and stainless steel cross guard and pommel. The Trident (S2) was made in Japan and discontinued about 2 years ago. The steel on the S2 was AUS6. The Trident 2.0 (S2B) is made in Taiwan and crafted using AUS8 stainless steel. Also the thickness of the blade is slightly less than the S2. Hope this helps out some with the confusion.
