I agree, several times I’ve seen someone using a diamond sharpener and they are using way more pressure than necessary. Those diamonds cut fast with lite pressure not much more than just the weight of the knife. It took me awhile to realize what was happening and after adjusting to lite pressure it improved immensely. The most difficult part for me is getting the angle right and my old eyes make it a challenge. Touching up by hand I do okay but when setting a profile I need a good magnifier and a jig to keep the set angle.
Only diamond sharpener I ever had was long ago used up. It was a thin pocket stick version I picked up at a hunting show. It was a very cheap one but did good work for the $5 or so it cost.
