Confused

The new Leatherman sheath looks like it might be a big improvement . The sheaths up till 2004 were made by Bianchi , and were great .

Well I found the Gerber and the Leatherman Wave at Walmart. I like the Wave. I found the Surge in Camo at Gander Mountain. I have to say I don't usually go for Camo tools or knives but I did like it. Camo sheath also. Giving the Surge consideration now. I'm still partial to Vic but so far haven't been able to find anyone who has the Spirit in stock. I'm going to look around a little more. I found the Wave at Dicks packaged with a free Leatherman LED light, but at $79 Amazon is much cheaper.

At least I'm narrowing it down. I appreciate everyones comments and opinions.

Thanks

Bill

If you want to buy a Spirit on line , there's a fella with the handle Felinevet , he supplies a lot of the vic product being packed by guys around here .

The only problem I found with the Spirit is the lanyard hole for it sucks and I like a nice lanyard hole to fasten it to my belt or other places. I do like there is a clip modification for it now which is really nice. It is much more compact and rust resistant extraordinaire.

The Wave can get a detachable lanyard ring and clip that also fit the Charge and a few other. It is also easy enough to tighten up or loosen up the hex screw on the Leatherman. Of course that might not be a requirement for you. I still like the full size Swiss Tool.

Of course the worse lanyard ring I seen is on my Leatherman Supertool. That was the most pointless addition I can think off.

I've never used a lanyard in my life, but I have friends that will not buy anything without a lanyard hole. Talk about wide differences of opinions. I watched some reviews on Youtube tonight and I think I"m going to just get the Vic Spirit X. It's thinner by 3 mm and I like the fact the blades are not one handed open. I do not like blades that open easily. I've had some really bad experiences with that. I know some like the one hand opening of the Wave but after watching how easily the blade opened, it is a deal breaker for me. I'm not buying this as a defensive weapon and in my opinion it almost makes the Wave dangerous if you throw it in your pocket without placing it in the sheath.

Thanks Everyone

I used to think one hand opening was a big deal , kinda a politically correct tactical that flies under the radar . In reality , I found that a dedicated folder is a much better cutter than any multi , the ergos are just wrong . For moi , the blade is just a backup/afterthought ; reserved for dirty jobs .

The overall implement quality / design and F/F , and QC are much better in the Spirit . The Spirit is engineered , the Wave is Kludged together by comparison .

BTW , Felinevet runs a charitable trust , to handle emergency cat repairs . So you are doing well by doing good .

I've been caring a Leatherman wave for about 2 years now. Can't stand a heavy knife or multi tool in my belt. Bought the pocket clip and found perfection. Never had a problem with the wave opening on it's own. I work in a factory, so it takes some pretty heavy use. I've found that sometimes, you are are not allways able to use both hands to open a knife in a hurry. The wave is not a defensive weapon, but rather a tool that can always be there when you need it. As you can see, I find the one hand opening feature extremly helpfull. It's what sold it too me.

Interesting Frontiersman. A friend just told me Dicks Sporting Goods has the leathermans in a display case and I can handle them there. Although I think I have made my mind up (Vic Spirit X) I am going to give the Leatherman Wave one last shot by handling it. I'm not sure I can get past the easy open blade but we'll see.

Thanks Everyone.
