I've had a decent amount of Benchmades.. and my first was the 761. That knife was smooth but didnt hold a candle to other competitors, plus tip down carry forced me to sell it off.

Today I received a Benchmade 781 Anthem in a trade and I am blown away! I was expecting good, but I wasnt expecting this good!!! The knife fills a spot in my knife case that currently no other knife can fill.

I have a bunch of CRKs, Spydercos, Grimsmos, customs, etc and this thing really left me with my mouth open. Its slim, strong, smooth, light, its got alot of good! Centering is spot on, lock up is rock solid.

Two other Benchmades in my current collection are the full size Adamas and a large Ritter Griptillian with Titanium Wilkins scales. Now I have three BMs that arent going anywhere.

This one interests me but it is sooo expensive for a production knife. If I were to buy it it would really have to be perfect -- the Ultimate Benchmade, so to speak. Perfect centering. Perfect grinds. Zero blade play.

It's a lot for me to ask for in a knife.

A work of ART there! I'd use it but I'm 1/2 way nuts anyway! Nice blade bro.

Same here; also given that it's $500 USD off the Benchmade site, if/when it makes its way up here to Canada, it'll probably be an extra couple/few hundred dollars on top of that from any place selling them new given how low our dollar is right now!

The knife can be found anywhere from $320 to $360 looking in the right spots. Both me and my wife have one, great knife.

That's encouraging to hear about the 781. Benchmade seems to catch an unreasonable share of hate on these forums so it's nice to hear good things about their new production flagship. I personally have loved the knife since I first saw it but it's a huge chunk of change to lay out without knowing Benchmade got it right.

SpySmasher perfectly articulated my thoughts.

If I ever come across one that far below MAP it's going to be hard to pass up....but still it'll need to be perfect. I'm also curious to see how the blade-stop portion of the frame holds up to maniacal flipping.

Ive already started testing this aspect of it :-)

Nice looking knife, i don't like bearings so i'm passing on this one but also agree with the above statement. I'm curious to see how the titanium frame holds up with the hard blade smacking into it after a couple years of flipping. Only time will tell i guess.

I've had mine for over a month now. It has held up like any quality knife. Centering is still good and lockup (looks around nervously) is equal to or better than my large 21. It has no play in any direction even when really yanking on the blade. I would say it's broken in now but it was perfectly smooth from day one. I did have to use some Teflon tape on the pivot once since it liked to loosen. It is a tough knife, I've used it a lot. The bearings have not started to wear in races yet. Maybe one day, but I keep my pivot as loose as possible without any play. The locking part of the handle developed a thin silver line across the surface on night one. I have flicked it a lot and the mark is still the same. I don't think it's going to change. I tried opening it really hard several times and still the same. I love it. I have 15+ spyders, 10+ benchamde, 5 zt, 2 sebenza and a ton of $75 and less knives. All I carry now is the Anthem 75% and my large left 21 the other 25%.

For those worried about buying..? Why? Hackenslash, just buy and return if unhappy. You can also drive to a store if one is somewhat nearby. I found my 781 at St. Nicks in Alabama traveling to Florida for vacation. It was awesome carrying it all week on the beach!

Edit: I did bend the clip to where there was about two sheets of paper gap instead of the much larger gap it had when new. I did it when I moved the clip for left hand carry. It's not the best clip, are any milled clips that great? Anyways, it's a good clip and I don't get bothered by it.

Thanks for posting about this one. At first I was thinking, from the looks of it, that it was too thick at the spine. NOT. I looked it up and it's around 0.11". Good stuff.
For me personally and for a user I would want to go raw grit blasted Ti but that would be boring wouldn't it.
Yes looks like a great knife you have there !

IMG_2607.JPG Couldn't agree more about this knife! Seems like lots of haters were blasting this one before it came out.
Have mine for over 3 months and have flicked it incessantly!
Amazing action, beautiful grind, fast and smooth opening with tight lock up.
Bad ass knife!! Real bad ass!

Total agreement here. My experience is much the same. Fantastic knife. Punches solidly in the high end weight class.

And so sleek!
