Congress Pocket knives

This half Congress carries nice and the wharncliffe blade is thin and pointy sharp. Great Edc

Something I've always been curious about, why does the Congress model usually have a curved handle?

Hey Stuntdouble. I'd say the curve in the handle comes from the congress pattern being a great design for whittling. The curve in the handle appears on many good whittlers and aids in handling during a draw cut while carving.

Here's a picture of two Half Congress' I have.
The Case is an 8 dot 62052 from 1972. The micarta beauty was made by Rick Menefee, built off a Camillus 4 line pattern.
I think the Congress is a great pattern, but I prefer the slim carry afforded by the single spring on the Half Congress.

I have a couple, but really like the blade layout on this 120 year old Electric Congress Whittler:

Here is a small Camillus half congress, 3 1/8" length. Useful blades, and a slim pocket rider.

Very nice pictures. I`ve been taking a liking to the Congress pattern ever since I saw a picture of Abe Lincolns ivory congress. I ordered a cheaper 4 blade Congress to see how I like the pattern, and if I do I`ll definately get one from GEC. They look amazing.

I've never really cared for the Congress pattern as a daily edc. Considering the size of the knife, the main blade is too small in proportion. I suspect they would make great whittler's.

I have one of the gec half congresses and find it great for EDC - rides really easy in the pocket and is big enough for daily tasks as well doing some nice whittling

Here's my Congress, from small to large, first is a German Eye half Congress, ~2 3/4"

Of all of them, the German Eye and the Case get the most pocket time. I'll be adding a Boker sometime next week.

This is a good opportunity to show two knives that are almost opposites in form and appearance: First the Tidioute half Congress, in buffalo horn, a simple shield, satin finish on two similar blades. Very slim, simple, almost minimalist appearance. What a splinter picker that main Wharncliffe!

Then, a Bulldog Congress with every feature you can think of: four different blade profiles, swedges, matchstrike nail nicks, decent stag scales with a wonderful shield you don't see every day, threaded bolsters, and a gaudy blade etch on German carbon steel.

One thing I admire about the Congress pattern is the precision and swedging needed to fit the blades together in the channel. I always like shots like this.

Two very different knives but I like both of them very much.

i carry these two frequently though i prefer the half congress. The vast majority of the cutting i need done i can get by just fine with the sheepsfoot or wharncliffe blade. The fact that they're easy to sharpen is just icing on the cake.

Howdy,
