I carried several Randall survival knives but none lasted very long.
They broke? Or you found something more useful? In what way was the performance lacking?

Reminds me of a certain automobile security lock (The Club) the manufacturer of which used to say in advertisement that his gear was approved by LEOs. Makers of the Club got in trouble for that untruth and now they just have advertisements showing the Club being held by a model dressed as a cop. Production tactical knife makers rely on "if it's good enough for <your branch of military here>, it's good enough to go to the mall with."

Most soldiers I know don't know too much about knives so this type of marketing means nothing to me.Special forces training doesn't teach much stuff about knives. But in my limited experience, this type of marketing works well to regular soldiers and air-softners."Look at my new piece,US xxxx use them."

I am much more influenced by what you guys on Bladeforums think about a knife than by what some elite military group member thinks.

The fact is, the folks on this forum are more informed on knives than ANY other group of folks walking the planet.

Imagine a knife that the makers claimed "Our knife is carried by more Bladeforum members than any other knife"!

When I was active in the Army, all the SF types I talked to were'nt really that concerned with the gear as much as they were with the intel, logistics, and movement of an operation.
When asked about a specific knife, the answer was usually something like "Well, whatever works".

Great idea! But what would that be?

Now that I think about it, the knife carried by members of this forum would be a single-edge fixed blade folder with a partially serrated edge made by Cold Steel featuring no serrations, a folding balisong handle and tanto-tip clipped point not made by Cold Steel, with black finish with a wharncliffe tip by BenchMade and double blade with a polished, mirror finish, made by Chris Reeves.

I think.

I used to think a stamp of approval from Special Forces mattered, until I realized what crap these guys are issued. These guys could make do with a piece of aluminum and bubblegum, it's all in the hand of the user. I know that I don't need a Sebenza or a Strider or a Randall, but I would like to play with them just the same.

For my tasks, I like to hear what other average knife users use.

And to all of the SF guys, thanks for your service, and I hope that the Feds give you better blades next time.
