Based on the two threads "Blade Thickenss in Relation to Bushcraft" and "Fixed Blade Length" a consensis for a good general purpose knife would be 4-6" in length and at least 0.125" thick with good blade depth a full tang, and made of tough steel such as 1095 or 440 C. Does this sound about right?

you git it. mabye even a bit thicker with a full flat grind. Dont forget your grinds, convex, scandi and full flats are the way to go.

Add in a Scandi grind and that is exactly the knife I have on the way !!!:D:thumbup:

I know most "bushcraft" knives have a higher carbon content for creating sparks with natural materials vice ferro-rods; plus they are generally easier to sharpen in the field as opposed to some of the higher end knife steels such as S30V. With that said, 440C would probably be at the bottom as opposed to O1, A2, 1095, etc.

Traditional bushcrafters like the drop point with a stout tip for drilling. I would at a good scandi or convex grind, however, a flat grind would work as well in my opinion.
