Considerations When Buying a New Flashlight

I recently made a video and a blog post going over various considerations I look at when buying a new flashlight.

The cliff notes version :) :

To make the most of your purchase, follow these steps:

1. Decide your budget
2. Determine what battery type you wish to use - Common is easier to acquire
3. Decide your illumination requirements - Higher Brightness = Lower Battery Life
4. Choose the features you want - Smarter features can mean a more effective tool
5. Ensure the flashlight is durable - A durable flashlight will last longer

Do your research and read the user reviews. If there is a problem with a particular flashlight, it will not take you long to find someone pointing out the flaw.

Here's the Video and Blog post that goes into these considerations in more detail:

You did a good job with the video and discussing options or considerations. You also didn't "push" a certain brand.

Most people seem to get hung up on the brightness. Yeah, it's important if you need really high brightness or distance. Multiple power settings is probably the most useful items for me.

I also agree with the "regular" battery suggestion, although I am not particularly preparing for the end of the world when I choose a flashlight. My favorite day in day out flashlight is sold by Lowes that takes C sized batteries. Larger batteries last longer and are more efficient in electrical use.

Price is important.

I have so many flashlights that even if I misplace one, I usually have a spare or another one not so far away. In a work situation or power outage, I use the LED lanterns as a general portable light source. Needless to say, I don't carry them with me, but usually have one in the work vehicle.
