Considering a PM2

The compression lock on the PM2 is just plain fun. I've had lots of PM2's and love 'em. I've had backlocks; don't like them although I understand they are plenty strong. Matter of preference.

Do it!!! Once you get it in hand, you WILL understand.

The ONLY con: If they would chop off about a half inch off the back of the handle and shorten the blade to 3 inches then I would most certainly have a collection like Clanton's. I only mean this con in the way that, it would be more carry friendly in places where the law is 3 inches or less.

Oh, and the Endura is nice and all, but........eh......it aint a PM2.

I have to agree with all here. There's a reason they bounce in and out of stock so quickly. Buy one, you very likely won't be disappointed. In the off chance you are, you won't have a problem unloading it here. PM2's don't last long on the exchange in any flavor.

You should look at the PM1!

I am a big Benchmade fan and I love the AXIS lock more than any other. However, the PM2 is definitely an all time favorite. The compression lock doesn't have quite the same crisp lock-up feel as the AXIS but is still works great and is VERY similar in ergonomics. The compression lock still allows you to close the knife one-handed without ever putting fingers in the path of the blade, like an AXIS lock. I don't think there is a medium sized knife in existence that has a wider range of use than the PM2. Just hold one and you'll see you need to buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Best knife out there for the price. Only con is you will want more! Here is a pic of most of mine

That is quite the collection.

The lock is similar to a liner lock but stouter.

Well, yes and no. For clarification to the OP, specifically regarding the axis vs. compression question, the compression lock is cut out of the liner like a liner lock. However, in practice, it locks the knife much like the axis lock does. It's a rather nifty design. I myself prefer the compression lock because of the use of springs in the axis lock, as well as Benchmade's reluctance to send replacement springs to customers.

Best all around knife on the market in the $100 range. Hands down.

This is my opinion as well.

Love my PM2 but I like the Axis lock more than the compression lock. Not to take away from the comp lock, it works very well. I didn't have a chance to pick up a Grip before the price hike but I have a couple of Benchmades with the Axis lock. It just works better for me.

I prefer the compression lock to the axis lock for one main reason: reliability. Like many here, I'm a compulsive flicker of my knives. I sit and open and close them a lot throughout the evening and weekend days at home. I've broken more than one axis lock omega spring because of that. The compression lock on the other hand has the simplicity (in terms of moving parts) of a liner lock with the added strength and security that you don't get with some liner locks.

I think the axis is ok. But for some reason I always feel like I'm barely hanging on to the knife when trying to actuate both sides of the lock. In fact I had a benchmade slip out of my hand once trying to close it one handed. This is just MY experience and should not be a deciding factor for others.

The compression lock on the other hand allows me to grip both sides of the knife with the thumb and middle, ring and pinky fingers while using the index finger to actuate the compression lock, allowing (for Me) a more solid purchase when closing. Just my thoughts here.

Not entirely sure why, but the Pare 2 is the most satisfying and fun knife to open/close I've tried. They seem to handle grit, grime and gunk better than other folder designs says well. Fit my hand perfectly. FFG blade is awesome.

This thread is making me wanna buy a second one dang it!! It will be a hall of fame knife in time

There are very few people who admit to not liking the PM2. I bought one based on other peoples raves and I really like it. Compared to some of my other knives the PM2 is a bit plain, and certainly not as pretty, but it is made well from good materials, and works very well. I have a couple of Axis lock knives and they are easy to use, but the PM2 is equally easy to use at least for a right-handed person.

I have a mini-griptilian but I don't like it that much because of the cheap plastic scales. I've considered buying one of the limited full size models with G10 scales but my current EDC rotation is so dominated by Spyderco models that I probably wouldn't even carry the griptilian.

I also pre-ordered a black PM2 today as well! Really can't wait to get it in my hands and play with the compression lock -- love the way it locks up in the videos, and how there's no real way your fingers will get caught closing it (if you're careful!).

About how long did most of you who had to pre-order have to wait for your knives? I know there's about 30 people in line at BladeHQ waiting right now...

OK, just gonna echo what has been said already - maybe this post will be the one to tip the scales ...

I asked all the same questions. I had many other knives. But I wanted to know what was up with the strong following for the PM2.

I bought one. I handled it. I liked it a lot, but still not ready to shout from the rooftops about it ... then I carried it for about a week or so. And the rest of the picture became clear. The ergos, the feel, the lock, the way it just "locks in" to your hand when you hold it. The blade profile allows it to work like a good sized EDC, or do delicate tip work. Deployment is smooth. Lock up is solid. Many different steels and new sprints arriving all the time ... this knife is hands-down the best damn blade available in this price range. I have Grips, Mini Grips, other Benchmades, other Spydercos, lots of carry options. The PM2 sees more pocket time than any other single knife I own.

Buy one. Carry it. Chances are you will agree. If you don't, you can sell it on the forums - it will go quickly.

I got my first PM2s in December. I have alternated between the 2 ever since. Quite simply the best EDCs I have ever had. I may put my BM users on the trading forums for lack of use.

What was I thinking? I have photos too...
