Considering EDCing a Small Fixed Blade. Recommendations Needed.

I'm a folder guy 99% of the time. I have an S90V Military on me right now. The only time I use a fixed blade is when I go camping in the warmer months. Or to do yard work. These knives are pretty big with blade lengths between 6-9". This is too big for me to EDC.

But lately I've been interested in EDCing a smaller fixed blade. One that I could carry horizontally (and duscreetly) on my belt. The Ronin2 looks like a great choice. I like the Yo2 very much so this makes sense.

To those who are more familiar with the fixed blade world , I asked you : what else would you recommend? The only parameters I have are :

- I want a stainless blade
- Must have horizontal carry
- Similar size or a little bigger than the Ronin2
- $300 cap or thereabouts.

I'll be doing research over the next couple days checking out knife reviews.

TRC Knives TR12-S
Survive! 3.5 (if you can find one)

Good luck in your search. Small EDC fixed blades can be very useful.

A Survive 2.7 in a Sagewood horizontal sheath. Maybe the SK kydex sheath has hole alignment that allows rotation. My older one didn't. For bargain price Buck has a "boot" knife that comes with several carry options.

Manly Patriot, comes with a handy adjustable Kydex sheath. When sheathed Patriot is very flat and makes a fantastic knife to carry and even premium versions are way below budget.
Cheers

Yet another vote for the Bradford Guardian. Check out the 3.5 as well. I like the handle shape and you get just a bit more blade length than the 3.

Yes , I just looked at the 3.5. I like the size a bit better. I'm just wondering how the full rounded handle shape carries. I would think a flatter design would be better. But I absolutely love the horizontal sheath.

If I’m not mistaken they’re offering the 2D checkered handle scales for these as well.

*edit*
Just checked their website and they are indeed offering the 2D scales.

I'm actually surprised you made it this far without hearing about the Guardian 3. As EDC fixed blades go, it's been at the very top of the list for quite some time now.

I own a 3 with the G10 handles, and it's comfortable to hold, though I imagine with the micarta you'd get a better grip because it'd fill your hand a bit more. Either one is a solid choice, especially for the price of them.

If you look on the exchange you can find a M390 Guardian 3 for roughly the same price as the N690 model.

Just remember you heard it here first. Bradford Guardian.

The flatter handle would carry better but if you have a bigger hand, I would think the rounded micarta handles would be more comfortable. I have a big hand (xl, 2xl glove) so I tend like a beefy handle myself.

If anyone has both handles, maybe you could take a width measurement for us? I'm curious to find out how much "fatter" the micarta is vs textured G10.

The Guardian 3.5 with flat (2D) G10 looks like the winner thus far.

I like the Ronin2 also but the sheath looks a little bulky.

Check out Gollik knives. His Elmax knives are amazing! This is my latest from him. This one has a 4 inch blade, but I have another with a 3.5 inch, perfect for EDC. It is a custom, so you can get exactly what you want, grind, handle material, shape, sheath option(horizontal if you want), steel, etc. All at a pretty amazing price!! I love the pry tool at the end of the handle too, comes in handy. Definitely a maker worth talking to. Another would be AD knives(http://adknives.com) from Cali, I just got one of his, and for the price, it is amazing!! Both have great turn around times.
Gollik knife, one of my many. This is the new one in the mail now headed my way. :)

Street Beat with a custom sheath. Get the discoed Micarta/satin version. I suggest primal options sheaths.
I just scored a sweet deal on a Street Beat but the stock sheath bugs me. Do you have a sheath from Primal Options? (asking for pics if possible)

That said I also recommend the Street Beat especially if you like the Ronin. I fell in love with the profile so I also picked up a Perrin Le Bowie to accompany it, it's smaller but very utilitarian.
