Considering my first Benchmade

I've owned a few BMs. Never had a problem with them. I still carry my Rift on occasion.

Sounds like you're talking about the 391BK SOCP Folder. It's a decent knife...not the best slicer though. The MAP is high for D2, and mine has fairly poor blade centering that I could probably fix if I wanted to bother with disassembling it. I don't regret buying it, but there are better USA-made knives in the same size and price range, like the Spyderco Native Chief.

100% agree. For the $, I think the BM in question is overpriced for $180 and D2 steel. @HP2114Bs suggestion is a great one. For the same amount of $, I find the Spyderco Native Chief a better deal. The Cutlery Shoppe has a CTS XHP version (a favorite steel of mine) for $175. I own one and it a great knife.

Yup, the XHP Chief is fantastic, as are all of the others. Rex 45 is my favorite steel, but the XHP DLC is probably my favorite color.

I should also mention that I got my 391BK for only $150 from an authorized dealer. I don't think they're a BF supporting dealer, but if you dig around on the internet you may be able to find them. They have it listed as "call for price", and you won't be able to see the price until you're ready to checkout.

I had a SOCP folder for a while. While I really enjoyed it, I found other models far more practical and moved it along. I kinda miss it a little.

I'll agree with the other members who said this knife is expensive for what it is. I'm not big on the tactical aesthetic but I feel like an FRN Spyderco or a whole bunch of knives from Hogue do it better. I'm not partial to thumb discs as an opening method and I don't like their position relative to the cutting edge. I also have serious doubts about the value of a glass-breaker on a knife handle. Having broken a fair share of glass in my day, I don't want it breaking anywhere near that close to my hand. Just one guy's opinion but that feature tends to turn "tactical" into "tacticool" for me.

Definitely check out what Hogue has to offer. If nothing else, they just released a few versions of their Deka in MagnaCut.
