Considering the Mantis Pit Boss

I honestly don't even know what the Mantis Militia is. I would think is like being a Beckerhead, but I honestly do not know. I know he has been... bad, to say the least, in the past. I don't particularly care what happened with him in the past, because I believe people can reform, and if you concern yourself with somebody's past, you can't be unbiased about them in the present. If I have a bad experience with them, then I will form my own opinion then, but if I have a good experience I (apparently alone) will praise them. I also kind of hope that when I get mine that something does go wrong so I can experience the customer service to comment on that. I will *try* to do a full review when I do get the knife (I am pretty bad at reviews, if it is good then I sound like an ad, and if it is bad I make it sound like it is the spawn of Satan).

What you are doing is arguing ad hominem. We are discussing shady business practices, not the person. Why are you talking about a person reforming?

The people here have taken issue with what the person has done, not the person.

Man, do you intentionally seek out knife companies most people hate just so you can argue about them?

Take a look at Dark Ops knives. I think they might be right up your alley.
I naturally gravitate towards the disliked minority. Don't know why, I just do. I also enjoy arguing, so long as people remain civil, so those two line up pretty well.

I took a look at Dark Ops, and while their knives look really nice, they are just nowhere near what I can afford. The only thing I may be able to eventually afford from them (with being willing to pay for it) is the neck knife, which is still at a killer $130, maybe lower from a dealer (if they have dealers).

Ironic, since you aren't very good at it.

Intentionally trolling the site for the sake of arguing. Yep, you'll go far here.

How is it trolling to ask for people with a knife to give me honest feedback, but instead being drug into... Mantis bashing, like I had specifically asked people not to do.

Cold Kill, can you post the chemical breakdown of the chinese 440V analog steel please. It's new in the cutlery world if it's truly 440v like and might show up elsewhere.

Joe

I can certainly appreciate that. The problem is, is that when people reply in the way you expect them to....you immediately and invariably accuse them of being "bashers." That is insulting. Those members' opinions are as valid as yours.

Is that trolling? That's up to the mod staff.

Mantis is bashed openly and frequently for good reasons. There is nothing good about the company, the person behind it, or their products. While I might not have handled the Pit Boss firsthand, I have handled one of their folders and a fixed blade of theirs. No bueno.

Carbon-----------2.15%
Chromium--------17.00%
Vanadium---------5.50%
Manganese--------0.40%
Molybdenum-------1.00%
Silicon-------------0.40%

Tried to line them up as best I can. That is chemical breakdown of the Mantis 440V.

Hater.

You have to have handles the knife in question to really be able to form an opinion of it. I have handled Bucks, Kershaws, SOGs, Benchmades, and Spydercos that I like and ones that I would rather throw in the street than use. Designing a knife is very hit-and-miss, with each knife varying from perfect to painful for use depending on who is holding it.

There, fixed it for ya... ;)

That said, you've been given some good advice here - if you want the knife, buy it. If you like it, great; if not, return it. If you like it enought to do a review, even better - no need to beat on concrete or metal pipes with it though, there are better tools for such things.

Yeah, well... I've handled infants that I'd rather throw in the street. So there! ;)
Sorry to see your thread devolve. Wish I had something constructive to add. Also wish this type of behavior wasn't General Discussion Forum standard protocol.

It's only illegal if you get caught.
