I know some of you guys are addicted and can't stop buying knives.
I myself am very picky and don't have to much money to spend so my choices for knives are limited.

I find myself deliberately looking for suitable knives to spend my money on.
I already have a list and are purposely trying to extend this list with more knives.

You guys do this to, or do you already know which knives you want and buy those?

This is the list by the way it might make this thread more interesting:

Want to buy
Xikar Explorer
Böker Plus Hyper
Kershaw Skyline
Buck Nobleman carbon
Ka-bar Becker Necker
Spyderco Tenacious
Leatherman Squirt P4

Interested in
Ka-bar Dozier
Kershaw Needs Work
Kershaw LFK
Gerber Harsey air ranger
S&W Extreme Ops (I know..)
Spyderco Byrd Raven
Victorinox Tinker small
Victorinox Pioneer
Victorinox Recruit
Rat Cutlery RC-4
Buck Smidgen
Blade-tech Ganyana lite
Ontario Rat 1

I have been able to constrain myself for months but the last two weeks I bought two knives and I am trying to order a third..(website not responding to my mail yet)
The only thing stopping me atm is there is nothing in the list I want to have immediately, but I'm trying very hard to change this.:grumpy::D

I do not make list of knives as much as list of makers/manufactures. I usually give myself at least a week to think about things. If I still want the knife in a week, it gets "mentally filed" on the want list and given a priority. My logic is if I cannot remember it, I do not want it bad enough.

The above being true. I will use things like New Graham's List function when I do not have enough time to research the knife I am interested in right away. I also use it as a bookmark for knives I think my friends will be interested in.

Hope it answers your question.

Hello, what I do is put the webpage that has a knife I'm interested in onto my Favorites list. I usually forget about half of what's there. I've been tempted to just open up the list and hold the down arrow key, let it up in a couple of seconds and pull the trigger on whatever item it landed on. But I always chicken out. When I get a chunk of money to spend on knives, I go through the list until I find one that fits my mood and current budget. Of course, I've always got a mental list going. It's funny about these lists though, often times by the time I get a chunk of dough, I've already moved on to other knives and wonder what had interested me about the knives on the list in the first place. I wish that I had saved all the lists of knives I've made from the time I started collecting. Seeing the progression in writing would be interesting.
There's some good knives on your list. I have the RAT 4 and it's a favorite.
Be well,
Enjoy

I used to awhile back but not any more. Now I just look around and focus on what grabs my attention. Recently the CS Rajah II and the large Espada caught my eye mainly because of the lock so I picked them up. I'm find myself buying more Scrapyard knives then any other kind at the moment. They are about to release a really nice knife you might have a look at it.

I focus on what the knife has to offer rather than it's some new special metal. I also tend to save up and buy better rather than trendy knives. I also look for good values (most of the time). I can sharpen my knives so edge retention is not as big a deal as it is with some folks likewise stain resistance is also not a big deal.

I have a list..... a very long and specific list. I also have a lot of knives, very specific knives. I need help...

I buy from time to time, even though another knife is the last thing I need. Bought a user Military yesterday in the exchange forum even though I already have 2.

I've already bought pretty much everything I could want. I still am adding Case knives to the arsenal (added 2 Peanuts this week), and am looking forward to the new stuff that Spyderco has in the pipeline. But for me, once I get most everything I could want, the buying does really taper off. Same thing I did with guns, and flashlights before that.

I too keep running lists of knives I would be interested in owning via notepad.exe and it gets updated often. Like sticf, I don't buy knives as a knee jerk reaction (ok, rephrase, I try not to. :p) Items linger on the list for no less than a week... and a few have been on there for over a year now.

Actually, truth be told, I keep not one... but three lists in the same file. The first is of knives that have withstood the test of time on the list that for some reason or another I just haven't gotten around to purchasing yet... eg, waiting to see a better price.

The second list is one of knives waiting to be bumped up to the first list. Knives still on the chopping block, so to say. Knives come and knives go; mostly knives go.

The third and final list is where the knives go. When I remove a knife from my second list, I keep it in the third list for some time for the exact same reason it was in the second list; sometimes you just have to sleep on a decision like that.

OCD is madness. ;)

You have it even worse then me then.
I decide which knife I want to buy before I get the funds. But you get the funds first and then decide what to buy. :D

And I also move on to other knives sometimes, wondering what interested me about the knife in the first place. Although some times old love comes back.
I wanted a Crkt Drifter a few months back, put it on the interested list a while later, and two weeks ago put it back on top of my to buy list.
I'm expecting it to arrive any day now. ;)

I keep my list in my head. I am on this site too much, so as I learn my list changes.
If I get a real hankering for one I am usually able to wait until it turns up on the Exchange.
Sometimes, what I see in the Exchange just makes me an all out impulsive buyer, whereas in stone & mortar stores, I can pretty well control my impulses.

It is not very often that available money matches my impulses, and that is the killer.
But I am real happy with what my collection has become since the first of the year, so right this moment I have no real wants, but, the right offering on the Exchange might really get the old juices flowing.

Spydercos centofaunte III is my only "must have" folder, and falknivens s-1 is my fixed blade must have. My okuden st-II in a-2 is my semi custom must have fixed blade.

I've pretty much gotten all of the, what I'm going to call, cheap knives that I want. Cheap to me being under $100.

<$100 Wanted
Ka-Bar USMC
Ontario Rat-1
RAT Izula

>$100 Wanted
Strider RW-1,RW-2
BM 42
BM 940
Sebenza (haven't decided large or small yet)

I have a pretty lengthy list going. Since I'm new to the knife world, I really want to just buy everything that catches my eye and see how I like it, knowing that if it doesn't suit me I can always sell/trade it later on...but then my little shoulder angel pops up and reminds me to be responsible with my money.

Man I had it so bad that was buying a knife every week. Then I bought a Spyderco Caly3 and I loved it. I still wasn't happy. I decided to try my hand at making knives and i all went down hill. Instead of spending 150 - 200 dollars a month I spent 400 dollars on knife making things in the first month. It has not been as bad after the first few months but now I love making and I still buy a few slip joints now and then.

Welcome to the sickness that is knife-aholicism.

I had a pretty big list for a while. Now I've got to the point that I can tell pretty quick whether a knife is worth getting or not. You're still finding out what you like... which is not cheap.

My best recommendation? Get a knife you'll still appreciate in five years.
Saving up for a Benchmade 760 wouldn't be a bad idea.
It's also hard to go wrong with the Spyderco Military.

Oh, and if you're good with taking care of stuff, don't think a Sabenza is out of reach either. If you can afford an I-Pod chances are you can afford a high end knife.

I'm not ready yet to buy more expensive knives. I don't see the point either actually; why would I appreciate an expensive knife more in five years time?

I'm not a fan of Spyderco, their knives or to wide; most of the knife sits outside the handle. Probably because of the hole needing to be accessible.

I will never buy a Benchmade; you loose the warranty if you take the knife apart.

I do like Sebenza's but everyone here already has one. If I would be willing to spend so much money I would want something more original. :D
I would buy a custom folder.

I also am constantly looking for knives to buy, but it's not a problem really.

I take a slightly different approach. I look very carefully at how I use my knives, and think about how I might use them (what I want to be prepared for). Then I look at knives, and think- would this knife be good for what I want to do?

I look for functionality, ergonomics, durability, price and (I have to admit it) looks when I decide what to buy. I'm cheap, and I seem to have an overdeveloped sense of opportunity cost (when I spend money on something, I'm always aware of what I *could* have spent it on, and what I can't spend it on now because that money is gone...) But when I've researched something carefully, it fits into my plans, it looks good, feels good and works good and I decide I can afford it, I go for it.

Window shopping really can be fun. And every single one of my knives is excellent. :)
