Well Not-So-Sharp and I are taking the plunge and carrying only traditional knives for one month. I think he has a few days on me but thats ok. Now like every person here I have been searching for that perfect EDC slippie. So far my rotation includes the following traditional knives:

- SAK Farmer - Had this one for about two years now and has made a huge difference in my EDC rotation
- Two Case Medium Stockmen in SS, one Jade Bone, the other Orange G10
- Schrade Large Stockman (FFA Edition)
- Schrade SC505 Orange scales
- GEC Furtaker Trapper in Yellow Rose
- Two Soddie Jr. one SS one CV
- Buck 309 I carried for about two years but then I really started rethinking things.

Now I have a few I have been holding back due to sentimental value but those include a maple trapper, and a peanut and copperhead in synthetic ivory. So they are not really a choice right now. I did consider carrying the peanut but the scales are warped on both sides the middle pin isn't holding them at all. So I just put it back in the box.

My only problem is I have yet to find the pattern that is for me. Now don't get me wrong I love buying new knives and trying different thing but wow am I addicted.

My next five patterns to try are humpback stockman, seahorse whittler, peanut, large trapper, and #25 GEC with the sheepsfoot blade.

Am I the only person with this problem? There are people that collect only one pattern and that is it for them. This concept is not for me. I thought I had put the seahorse behind me but I got a chance to handle one the other day and wow is that a blade. The stag on the trapper I handled that day was amazing as was the stag on the peanut. The only two patterns I have not held are the #25 and the humpback stockman.

Well I guess I have talked myself into buying something. Will it ever end?!?!?!?!?!?

I forgot one I wanted to try but it may or may not be considered traditional. The Fallkniven U2. Looks like and sounds like a great lock back.

I'm pretty much the same way. I would rather have a bunch of different types than all one pattern. Part of the fun for me is trying out patterns that I've never used before. Maybe I just haven't found a style that has gotten me hooked yet. I don't know if it will ever end, but hanging around here sure makes it hard to stop.;)

I am always on the look out for that "Pattern" as well. Or that one knife that just does it for me. As of now, the longest I have ever carried a knife was my Bonestag Peanut. I carried it for a few years, on and off. I wasn't always faithful to it, but couldn't stay away for long.

i too can't decide on anything. closest is a case CV sodbuster, but i can't say i love the bladeshape...

I've seen 2-3 custom slippies that really just hit the spot, just about perfectly what i'd like. but the $650+ price point is just way out of reach.

Why aren't there mass produced patterns like some of the simple single-blade customs? yeesh.

It won't end because the pattern that is 'the one' now, will not suit 10 years from now. We go through stages in life, and our activities and life styles will change. What works now, won't in 10 years, if that long. Jobs, family duties, age, will all change. Some day, you may look back at your younger days, and think "What was I carrying that thing for?"

I know I have.

I used to think the 3 7/8ths stockman was the perfect edc knife. Then I went to a 3 1/4 inch stockman. Now as a retired 'older' gentleman of leasure I'm packing a peanut, even though I havemore time for fishing with the grandkids, and walking in the woods with my better half of almost 40 years.

Different knives for different stages of your life.

Carl.

I totally agree. While I certianly haven't found the one pattern for me, I've started to realize that it's probably a single blade pattern. I think the closest thing I've found is the Northwoods indian river. Nice rounded corners, single blade, and a spearpoint tip. Now if I could just get the cash together to buy one.......

Stephen, you must try the humpback stockman. That is my current "perfect edc" for now. Of course, the whittler is great too...

3 5/8 stockman, downsized to 3 1/4 for me. I have different patterns but stockmans are my favorite. I still go after other patterns.

Barlow's and Canoe's fit in my taste and carry well. Gec's are great (even I have had bit misfortune)

I go from one stage to another in my knife collecting. Its kinda sad at times. I also wonder when it will end?

I've come to conclusion that my knife collecting ends with all my troubles when I die. Death cures everything, till then I enjoy collecting and using knives... till death. If I ran out money, I always can trade :D

So far I've been pretty lucky in that a stockman pattern seems to suit me fine. I usually carry that in one pocket and a SAK in the other. Buuuuutt, I've been looking at a few lovelies on the BUCK sub-forum. May have to add one of those also.

Everyone needs a Buck stockman. They are the Sherman tank of work knives, and make a good dirty deeds knife.

Nope, it won't ever end :D

You've forgotten to try the moose. I think you'll find a round-bolstered moose to be the most pocket friendly knife you'll ever carry.
And they're work horses as well as being pretty too...

I have been contemplating a Moose but the ones listed will come first unless something else happens.

As of the first of the month I have been wanting to create my Nessmuk Trio so a Moose is inevitable. Blindhorse is offering a MUK this month and I am just shy of the cash right now to get one. I am going to post some stuff up for sale/trade... Never know what may some of that.

that's a nice one.

something like this would be perfect for me, when i'm not carrying my sebenza

there was another custom single blade with carbon fiber scales that i saw that would be perfect, even with a cheap scale material mass produced, like a delrin. i'd still love that, it's a great pattern.
