This is a short story about my first experience with Mr. Nevling from Burr Oak
In short, he is a heck of a guy and a person that is improving each and every time out.
From 2/2000 at the ACKS (One of my favorite shows!)
Just to start it off, I have to tell you about the best deal of the show. I took my 6 year old son with me courtesy of free passes from Larry Connely at Knife Art. (Big thanks Larry!) My son was a great sport, and as always very polite.
When we went to the Burr Oak table we were looking at some of their fixed blades and chatting with the maker Mark Nevling and Mark talked with my son and asked him if he wanted to collect knives like his dad. My son said yes but he didn't have any knives yet. Well I'll be damned if Mark didn't reach under the table and pull out a little fixed blade (3 finger with dyed bone and a mosaic pin!) in a dangler sheath and hold it out. He said, here is your first knife for the collection. It was just the right size for a kid and as pretty as could be.
I just gaped while my son reached across and accepted it. (I made him give a penny back for luck.)
Not often do you run across folks that do a good turn like that.
I finally got the knife off his waistband this morning before he left for school. (I would love it if he could have taken it in to show off but you know the way things are...)
Anyway, a big thanks is in order from myself and my son to Burr Oak knives for their act of kindness. My son made me take some pictures of him with the new knife when we got home so he can send them to Mark...
