Contact wheel Hardness?

I have a 10'' on my Burr King, and looks like I'm going to have to get it recover or buy another. While checking Burr King site it shows that the smooth wheel is 90 Duro. I always thought my was 70 Duro. What I understand is that the harder wheel is good for stock removal. What is the ideal hardness for a all purpose smooth contact wheel?

70 to 80 durometer is pretty standard. I know I have read that someone here has a 90 wheel and likes it very much. For more aggressive stock removal serrated wheels are recommended but I think that can be accomplished with a belt like a 3m trizact.

Well, I can give you my experience in this matter. I have a 14" 90 durometer wheel. With it I just ground out 22 blades of CPM 154 steel with a dull 3M 977 belt. I think the same belt will be good for another 22 blades. With the hard wheel, the belt just keeps on cutting.
When I go to 220 and 400 grit belts, the 90 duro wheel leaves small dips in the blade, so I switch to a 10" wheel with maybe a 70 duro. That takes the dips out and leaves a smooth blade.
Both these wheels are serrated.

That's what I was wondering, seems like it does good with the 60 grit, but not as good with the 220 & 40 grit belts. I will check on 70 duro wheel.
