Contact Wheels

Any reccomendations for the hardness of smooth face contact wheels used for blade finishing(220 grit and higher)? Also, which manufacturers make the best wheels? I'm using a Square Wheel grinder.

Art: I use 60 Durometer x 1" wide face for finishing. Try Stephen Bader Co, 518-753-4457.

I would recommend 50 or 60 durometer for fine grits but go harder 80 or so for heavy cutting if you have the choice, the harder wheels wear better.

George, how would I find out how hard the wheels I just bought are? I got them from Bader, will they know? Thanks! Michael

If it is not marked on the invoice the best route would be to call Bader. I would bet that they make all of their wheels about 60 Shore A durometer. This is a good average for most uses.
