Container for single CR123 battery

NO!!!! You put a cr123 in that and it will short out and maybe even go BOOM!
Lithium 3v batteries pack a lot of energy in a small package. And neither do I have an answer for a container.

Oh yes. Very bad.

You could put some black electrical tape or some duct tape over BOTH contacts of the battery first.

Why both? Redundancy. If one abraids through, the other will -- hopefully -- hold.

Wear a couple of wrist sweatbands, one over the other and keep the battery in between.

You can fit 2 in an Advantix film container.

For singles, one of the Tylenol tubes you get at checkout counters will fit 1, maybe 2 with either a cardboard or paper spacer being used.

There is no need for a spacer between them if the overall container is non-conductive.

I just dump the spares in a pocket in my Maxpedition Fatboy. If i'm not carrying that i just put it in my pockets. It's small. No point in me carrying a case which will make it even bigger.

If i were you however i'd get the missus to sew a nice small pocket thingy using nylon or corduroy or some thick cloth. And make sure to have a lanyard hole. That way you won't be adding too much bulk to the battery. If you're worried about it getting wet just carry it in a small ziplock bag.

If i were carrying more spares i'd look at the surefire containers. Looks nice.

this might work with the bat wrapped with a $100. Not sure of the dim. of the 123 battery are again.

It is nice. I use it to carry six batters around and my spare lamp assembly. No metal touching either contact point of the batteries so it's safe.

Six 123's are a little heavy though.

Good advice all around.

One thing I'm wondering though, if the inside of the container is longer than the battery, then isn't it impossible to short out the battery? The container in the link above would be about 1/4 inch longer. The battery would have to touch both ends at the same time to make contact.

The main reason I'm interested is that I heard that Lithiums hate water. I've got a lot of water around the house and I usually carry 1 spare battery in a ziploc in my pocket. I'm just looking for something a bit more waterproof (my ziploc gets damaged real quick with all the other stuff I carry).

Thanks again!

Guy

Yeah, I just ordered myself 2 CR123 battery cases from InAnyCase.com, that I had suggested to you.

Oh, it's a holiday and I'm to lazy to go and dig up a 123. Just check to make sure that the outter metal case of the batter (the "sides" of the battery) aren't electrically-connected to one terminal or the other.

Otherwise, you're right. The danger is in shorting the battery and if you can't do that, then you're safe.

I'm not so fond of the battery rattling around in the case, so I'd suggest getting some sort of padding material and cutting a piece that fits in the end of the container to take up the space. Since the container is water-tight, you could just use layers of cardboard.

You're not going to short a CR123 battery in a carrying case with a flat bottom. 123s even have a little plastic ring in the bottom of the wrapper at the base of the battery. That's why you have to have a nub or spring to make contact.
edit: somehow missed seeing your link...these look very similar
I got a stainless "spy capsule" thingy off ebay that is similar to the expensive ones for nitroglycerin bottles, but the seller was unsure of the dimensions. Since it was $5.95 instead of $24.95 I decided to give it a try.
It took some careful dremelling, but it works.
Here is the (long expired)auction.
The blue R123 in the second pic I posted(the SF123 is in the capsule) does not have a protected bottom, plus has a larger outside diameter, so it will not fit in this case-regular 123 barely fits, and actually sticks inside the cap.
But it fits:)

gee, talk about a useless solution to a non-existant problem...
put some electrical tape around the battery so that it covers the contacts and toss them in your pocket...

hell, forgo the electrical tape and toss them in your pocket..

I know you stated you were looking how to carry one... I carry my Surefire E1e qnd three batteries on my belt every day ( the batteries are taped together w/electrical tape and sit on the bottom of the pouch, with the lite on top)... along with my Gerber and a passle o'bits... in a triple mag pouch... You may find a double or single works for you...
