Contego or Gayle Bradley 2?

I have both and have found that the Contego holds its edge longer but the GB2 is slicier (is that a word?).

The Contego is heavier and tougher.

The GB2 is lighter and smaller in the pocket.

The GB2 has lockstick, I am told that is common. It is impossible to use with gloves.

If I could only keep one it would be the GB2 but by a very thin margin.

That's a good point about the gloves. Aside from that issue I would always pick the gb2

I didn't know there was a difference in performance of each companies M4.

How would the edge dull more quickly on your contego? Any problems with chipping?

Neither of mine has lockstick. Spyderco does pretty well with linerlock knives. When you say impossible to use with gloves do you mean operating the linerlock or something else? If the gloves are thick enough I have trouble going one handed on any folder with a lock and the Spyderco hole is the only opening method that works well for me with my gloves on. I have gloves with half the fingers cut off to make opening and closing folders ( and using keys, etc) possible.

My GB2 bad lockstick, especially if I open it quickly. Some gloves I can open it, some I can’t. I have never been able to close it with gloves.

The Contego i can close with gloves. It it smooth and the blade is heavy so it can be flipped open without using the stud or opened with stud while wearing gloves.

I have had no problem with chipping from either knife. The GB2 seems to dull a little bit faster but I haven’t done any real testing, just noticed it needs touched up more. It’s edge holding is still awesome.

I have a contego in m390. It's a beast, and after taking the edge down to 15 dps it can slice as well. I enjoy using it. It's a fun knife, huge, and just looks awesome. The GB2 is also amazing, but much more classy. Much more slicey thanks to the hollow grind and thin behind the edge. Capable of hard work as well.

My GB2 has lock stick at first, but after using a bit it went away. If you want a great all around, beautiful, well made knife go GB2. If you want something that cuts, is huge, and don't mind the jimping, get the contego. Or just do the right thing and get both... Lol

I have both and would tell you to grab the GB2 ahead of the Contego. I believe the GB2 has been discontinued too, which is unfortunate, because it, and the GB1 are true classics. The Contego is pretty uncomfortable in the hand and hard on the pocket, but the blade shape is great and I do like the axis lock. That said, the GB2 is pocketed more frequently.

The build quality of the GB2 is something to behold , it's built like a rock .

The GB2 is a very nice knife. And Gayle Bradley is a good guy, who knows knives.

The Gayle Bradley 2 is regular production. The discontinued rumor was started by youtubers. It may be out of stock, but there will be more.

I found the Contego handle to be uncomfortable without gloves, so GB2 hands down.

If you remove the CF scales, and very slightly relieve the cutout for the liner lock, just about 1/16" back so it is flush with the CF scales, it improves the access to and ease of using the liner lock. I've done this on both the GB and GB2, and it is hardly noticeable, but makes (to me, anyway) a big difference. (Custom cocobolo scales)
