Contego vs. Adamas

I love the 2750. It fires hard, fast and smooth. Not quite as much as, say, a Protech, but faster/harder than a Piranha. I got to play with it side by side in the shop with a Piranha Amazon, Bodyguard and whatever their new model is called- can't remember. Also next to a Protech Doru and Runt. The Doru is the hardest and fastest firing ots I've ever handled. Lightning speed. The Piranhas almost seemed laid back by comparison. The Adamas was faster than the Piranhas but not close to the Doru. That's pretty impressive seeing as how the Piranhas all have much lighter/thinner blades than the Adamas' slab of steel. I'm impressed.

I had to make this tough choice myself and I voted Adamas. Corrosion resistance is a concern for an edc. Coatings always wear off, especially with heavy use. Keep in mind that the area where the axis lock bar comes together with the blade is uncoated. Pockets can get very damp/humid in the summer epecially if you are working.
The edge retention of Benchmades D2 is excellent but it is still D2 which is almost stainless but almost is still better than not stainless. The only thing I would change about the Adamas to make it "perfect" is make it out of ELMAX steel. Done...

An Elmax stonewashed Adamas would be on the top of my knife list.

Well, I decided. Instead of buying the Adamas and Contego, I bought a zt 0561. Never looking back, thanks for the replies and information.

Well, I was about to buy both. Instead, just bought one.

Good choice, I do like the 560 (Elmax, flipper, KVT, Ti) a little better than the Contego, which I like a little better than the Adamas. Of course you can always get the other two later as well.;)

I do love the AFCK or AFCK type folders (in the pic).

I thought M4 was more than a bit better than D2 but I stand corrected. The reviews I've read on the adamas are outstanding. I do like the contego blade shape.

I've been looking at the same two knives and the Bedlam (the Bedlam would be my "tough/cool" looking folder --- one that probably can't do too much).

I've thought about the large Warn/Barrage or 581 with M390 (stainless M4 to some extent).

I might wind up with the ZT 0560 --- I'm very impressed with the ZT 0350ST. But I can't seem to find much info on Elmax steel (I think that's what it's called and I've heard it's a good European steel).

Buy both and return one.

Too many choices!

It's seems like the blade shape on your auto axis 2750 is different then the manual axis 275 , different in a good way , the blade look much better , not to mention much more aggressive
This is strange , because the 2750 and 275 should be exactly the same other then the auto

Hi Fellow Lefty:

Good info! The Protech has my interest but so does the 275. Perhaps the Protech a bit more as I can get a manual adamas and, thus, have one great auto and one great manual. Any idea where to locate a Protech Doru lefty? Tx!

I love my Adamas, and look forward to getting the Contego soon. Even though I felt like G10 and the jimping is super aggressive, I still want it! That M4 is just too good....

My 2 cents after owning both for a while. While I was very very excited over the Contego, after a while, the Adamas became my EDC again. Nothing particularly wrong with the Contego, but it just didn't click with me the way I thought it would.

in terms of aesthetics I would choose the contego hands down, to me the adamas is ugly as all heck. but I bet the adamas is more comfy in the hand, particularly if you have larger hands. I don't really have actual experience with either though so..... I wouldn't really be of that much help XP

The 810 isn't bad in the pocket and I don't think it is painful in the hand at all. The edges don't bother me and I don't get hot spots, at least not yet. I've heard people complain the Rift is uncomfortable as well, and that has never crossed my mind. Not sure what the difference is but I don't have a ton of calluses?

The 275 is huge, mainly in thickness. I haven't used mine yet because it isn't very pocket friendly IMO. But if I wanted a heavy duty knife it is what I would pick. I bet it is one of the strongest folders made.

Just picked up my Contego a bit ago.

Great knife, however it isn't as heavy duty as the Adamas.

The axis lock is not as heavy duty, and the liners are not as thick.

Not to say it is weak by any stretch of the imagination! Just not as heavily built as the Adamas.

Noticeably thinner and lighter as well.

For me the contours and texture of the handle are also non issue, not bothersome at all on mine.

the contego if you enjoy using knives. the adamas if you enjoy trying to make people think you're an "operator".
