Contemplating Assist I...

I'm contemplating the Assist I as my first SE spyder. There are several things I like about it, first off the look. Second I like VG-10, I like flat-ground, I like the concept of the glass breaker, I like the blade thickness. My only question is: how are the ergos? I believe ergos are relative and this is an attempt to show you my prefs:

Ergos I liked:
Native I
Para (it's growing on me fast)

Disliked:
Endura 3
Cento 4

Thank you all for your help
:)

The ergos are nice. Its a fairly think handle, but fits WELL in your hand. How could you practically want the glass breaker? Are you EMS or anything? My friend is, and has one. I liked it, just not enough to warrant buying it.

Honestly I have no reason to need another knife, nor do many people on these forums, I think it's a cool design, it's a cool gadget factor that it has a glass breaker and hey, you never know what may happen down the road...

Phil - good on ya. The Assist is a great knife to carry in the car, pocket or a gym bag. It is VERY versatile and you have already mentioned some of the best features.

Now, my take on the Ergos, I love them on this knife, the finger grooves are superb - BUT the handles are THICK. I like a handfull in a blade (as long as I am not going to be using it for hours) so I really enjoy the solid feeling this one gives when it fills your hand up completely. The D'Allara is the same way, I don't think you would dislike the larger grips as there are no particular "rub" points or anything that sticks uncomfortably into your palm.

I think if you picked one up you would not want to put it down.

You raise a good point... It would go nicely in my trucks center console for those, "I need an Assist I right about now." moments. lol.

It seems to me that my D'Allara is no where near as thick as the Assist I checked out last summer. Id have to look at it again to be sure. But I remember it being much thicker than my D'Allara.

I also do a LOT of work with rope and rigging stuff, and all I have is PE knives, I had a thread about this a little while ago, I think an assist I would be a very nifty two birds-one stone thing...I have thick hands, thick handles will get along nicely with them...

thanks for all the help :)
Phil

600! woot!

The assist one is awesome I use the hell out of mine and they are awesome anytime you might not want to poke anything. I had a kydex rig made for it to carry on my pfd and I keep one in the car.
