Well we have not had a contest for a while and considering the response on the last one perhapes should not have another. However considering how we are now without a company, or moderator ( yeah I hate bosses or rules I had to follow and enforce them for to many years. ) It is now time to kick it up a notch ( or at least try ) So that the other forums at least know we are still alive OK all you heavy guns out there, think you are pretty sharp ( get it sharp knives ah yea anyway) Now you have books to look things up and people who worked at Schrade and in general, I must say are getting pretty smart lets see who can answer this one.

I have attached a pic of 5 Schrade knife blades. The picture is lousy on purpose because you are supposed to get your answers and hints from just the shape of the blades. Now the reason for this question is to show that Schrade made many patterns that often were very similar and often if you like a specific style ( as a working knife ) and now that they are gone can no longer find it you might want to try something similar.

Here are some things ( hints ) you should know first if this was a good picture of these knives (as I hope to show when the contest is over ) you would be able to discern the answer easily. Second two of these knives are LTD editions however they are in a well known pattern ( which again you will recognize ). So it will be the pattern numbers which is needed ( example 165-OT all that is needed is 165 pattern. ) Also there may well be other patterns similar to these however these again, are well known. Also all the handles on these knives are of different materials.

The questions which need to be answered are 1, What is the blade pattern for each knife 1 through 5? 2, When you see the good picture, what will immediately stand out that is different about the blades? 3, How many different patterns are shown? 4. How old are the socks I am wearing ( no just kidding on the last question. JUST THE FIRST THREE QUESTIONS. )

The winner (the first to answer all the questions correctly and notify me ) will receive FREE including postage a genuine brand new no longer made ( almost the last of my stock ) Schrade Proud American hat. ONLY ONE WINNER.

In order to answer you must email your answer to lt632ret@frontiernet.net. ( NOTE the first character is a small L not the numeral one for which it is sometimes mistaken. ). Judging will be done by myself Buster the cat ( my co habitant ) and Mr C Rown Royal. Decision will be final, ties will be decided in a purely predjudical manner ( much as job promotions are decided in most places ). If the winner is brave enough to send a PHYCHO like myself there address I will send them the hat if they want it. Or they can tell me to go SH-- in it.

If this all works out I will submit a good picture of the knives and it will all become clear how easy this is. Good Luck to anyone who may have an interest. LT PS Oh yes almost forgot I would like ( if and when we have a winner ) to post the winners name in this thread, so if you enter please be aware of this ).

Alrighty then since I posted the contest I have received a couple of responses none of which were 100 percent correct . 100 percent correct and being first makes you the winner. ( BY the way there will be NO affirmative action points given to any one because of race, color, creed, greed, or any of the other fake reasons they are given out, instead all of us will be equal which, it was my understanding was the original way this country was supposed to work ).

The reason I am writing this post ( besides injecting my right wing asides and outdated opinions ) is to clear up what seems to be the point of major contention regarding one of the items mentioned in my original posting. ie my socks In fact questions regarding my socks have out numbered the responses to the contest.

Therefore I am posting an actual picture of the socks I had on at the time of writing the original message. This was quite easy since as you can see I am still wearing them and will be for some time. While these may seem a bit unique I have several pair just like them. Living and being alone and being quite pathetic I find that they are like old friends and as such are just perfect. MY other undergarments are in a similar condition. PLEASE do not request to see these. Also as time goes on I find the other undergarments are often not needed ( which would seem to be more information than any one would need ). It should be noted that I do wear other somewhat more restrictive ( no holes ) garments when I venture into society however I have found that while most people on the street wear finer garments, than these in the picture, the holes they (people) possess are in the makeup of there character, as a result I like being home with my worn but honest socks.

As I have said before in many ways a good knife is better than most people if you treat it right it will never let you down or betray you. Perhapes that is why I have such a penchant for them.

Final note if I can have the bolitos to post a pic of my socks then you should have enough gumption to send some attempts at answering the contest. my email again is lt632ret@frontiernet.net Good Luck and thanks to any who may have the interest to respond. LT

LT, I have MUCHO interest in this contest (the knives not the socks). I just don't have the knowledge to participate, so this puppy is staying on the porch and watching the big dogs rumble. BTW, there is this new charity thing I got going, "Hats for balding puppies" :D

Codger
Schradeophiles have been there and some have the hat
(More shameless though harmless groveling)

I am truly surprised I gave many of the answers in the questions. Pull out those schrades and just LOOK. Otherwise when you see the answer you will realize that faint heart never filled a flush. Go fer it. I had you on my list as a contender, You are sending an email to answer so there can be no embarrassment. You and everyone else familiar with Schrades knows these. I would not insult you by offering to give you a hat when I know you have the knowledge to win it honorably, but not even to try on the pretense of lack of knowledge you cannot sell me that I think to much of you. ( Now did that motivate you it is the same kind of stuff I used to tell my officers when they had to remove a violent nut case from from hurting himself or others ). Seriously whatever you do is respected but why not take a minute you know the answers. LT

I´d say those socks aren´t more than a couple of years old, they probably wore out from being used while carrying the cornerstone. They are not very useful now, cannot be used to keep ping pong balls which would fall out.

Luis

I would like to guess.......but the only 2 Schrsde fixed blades I ever seen or handled are a Sharpfinger (which I bought) and a Staglon filet knife :( .....so I'm not qualified, and I'll look forward to finding out who eventually wins.

However, I'll take a crack at the age of the socks. I bet LT is an efficient shopper. When I got a knife from him once, you may remember I commented on the section of longjohns he wrapped it in. I'll bet he picked the socks out at the same time he bought the undergarments.....I'm going to say sometime after Schrade quit using the Walden tangstamp......but before the lengendary trip to Ireland. You know he would need new longjohns for that jaunt. That's not too long ago, as Flutie is still playing in the NFL. :D

Bill

Cheeze Larry,

You are supposed to email LT, so you don't give all us losers any information.

Pull over to the side of the road, and give me your car keys. You've been busted on Andy Devine Blvd. We'll take good care of your Chickmobile.

Bill

PS
Too late dude, I saw your post. :D

Bill,

If you saw it you'll know just how wrong I was.
Andy Devine blvd! Got a 58OT in Kingman on Andy Devine!
:)
Larry

I´ve sent in my answers, though I don´t know much about Schrade fixed blade patterns I only commented on the blade´s shape, I´ll be watching for the right answers.

Luis

Interesting idea Don Luis I never thought of using my socks to hold my balls. By the way all answers referring to my socks are considered correct so anyone answering that question is sure of getting one question correct. Just as an update there have been quite a few responses and while no one has gotten all the answers correct various people have gotten some of the questions at least partially correct. My suggestion is not to make more of it than it is, remember the reason for posting this contest, think a little outside the box and keep it simple the hints are there and when you see the answer you will understand. Once you realize the knives you will know what is needed for the second question. You should be able to answer the third question by looking at the pic.

Now for tonites ( secret ovaltine hint: from the days of radio ). These are contemporary knives ( under the SCHRADE tang ) keep it simple and one answer will lead to the rest. Again remember the reason for the test.

Wolfman you and every one else on this forum has the knowledge to answer these questions you have seen and know these knives just from this forum. No copouts suddenly all these guys who do nothing but talk Schrades on this forum have no knowledge of them.

Look at that picture, the answer is there what is the same what is different what factor could be a variable that is not applicable. All of these things have been spoken about right here. Why would I have blanked out the blades like I did. OH yes one more hint Tang markings and blade engravings do not matter. You can do this LT

I just want to tell you all, I was so wrong I was as my kids say "spanked"

As Lt says at least I got the socks right!

Larry

Not fair, you guys are there it is just a matter of putting the pieces together. This is the mark of a true SCHRADEMIESTER. LT

Irv, I think a good spanking is sometimes a good motivator to do better, try harder. ;)

LT, thanks for my spanking, I'm ready for the next one now. You have mail. Again. :footinmou

Codger
Still scratching my head with a Schrade

OK, I took a "Shot in the Dark".......I'm prefectly willing to prove I'm an amatuer at Schradeology....... :footinmou

Oh, by the way,
Ovaltine = Flash Gordon......and our very own Ming the Merciless is running this contest for our pain/pleasure. :D

Wolfeman

If LT was a school teacher we would all have failed the first quiz of the year but with his patience and guidence gone on to graduate with honors.

The term "spanking" is used in N.E., like the word "wicked", to mean a good lesson learned from a better. Put them together in a sentence from yesterday "the Patriots gave the Bills (whom until yesterday had one of the best defensive lines) a wicked spanking".
:)
I'll keep trying.

Ovaltine = Radio Orphan Annie. Maybe he is our Daddy Warbucks! :D

Secret messages at the end of every show, Ovaltine secret decoder pin (not ring), messages about the next radio episode. Hmmmm... now where did I leave my Ovaltine decoder pin?

Codger - working on another hand

P.S. I have a sneaky suspicion that he has outright given us the answers to all the questions, except #4 which he admits even he is not sure of.

Tonites hint: I received a answer from one of our more well known contribututors and I felt it should be the latest hint. You are on the right track but again are reading to much into the question which is simply there to offer an alternative to someone looking for a type of knife. READ THE LAST FEW THREADS . Often ideas ( for contests or what ever ) are the products of what has happened before which inspires those ideas. However since an answer must be all right or all wrong yours is wrong. But here is an idea to think about suppose your answer was correct. Then you would have to answer question two so why not go on assume your answer was right then look at the patterns you chose would there then be a noticable difference in those blades that would answer the second question. This is really a large hint so I will post it as tonites hint for everyone. It should be noted that this individual named 4 models of knives ( for question 1 ) his answer was incorrect this could have been due to the wrong patterns or wrong identification of each knife. LT

Alrighty we have a winner. Attached is the winning entry. the explanation and the picture.

#1 - 160
#2 - 153
#3- 153
#4- 160
#5 - 153

?2 - What immediatly stands out in a good picture.
The sweep of the blade point, tang and the finger guard (Bolster) and the grind are all different (the 160 is a flat grind)

?3- 2

Am I any closer?
Hell Im starting to see fixed blades in my sleep!
THis is fun. I hope someone get this right.
Thanks
Larry

Your answer to question 1,-----------------------------CORRECT. Your answer to question 2, ---------------------CORRECT. The grind is the variable which could not be shown due to the 160 flat grind and the 153 beveled half grind this would have been a dead givaway and really is the main difference ( aside from handles ) in these knives. While you stated that the 160 is a flat grind and that the grinds are different you should have mentioned the beveled half grind of the 153. However specifying that the grinds are different and adding that the 160 is a flat grind qualifys as a correct answer. 3, Your answer to question 3 is confusing in that the question asks how many patterns and how many of each you put 3-2 this could be 3 patterns and 2 of each but since that makes no sense since there are only 5 knives . I take it that you mean 3 of the 153 pattern and 2 of the 160 pattern which would seem to be 2 patterns used for the five knives. If this is your meaning then question 3, ....................CORRECT. As the first respondent to answer all questions completely you are the winner of the hat and the title SCHRADEMEISTER. Congratulations please send address again.

To all of you who have expressed an interest in this small attempt to show that we are a viable entity and because of interest and dedication deserve the opportunity to continue to contribute and keep alive this little bit of american history I on behalf of the rest of the Schradeaholics, Schradeaphiles, or whatever perhapes less complimentary names THANKYOU. Hats Off to Larry ( oh man that was bad ) I mean congrats. I know what this means to him Ill bet he would rather have that hat than won the mega million lottery. Whats 100 mil when you can have a Schrade hat.

To the rest of you including myself, I have the following advise is if this is how we spend our time perhapes we should consider getting a life. I do hope it brought a chuckle or two. Thanks again LT
