Contest -- Swamp Rat 981

Here's my shot:

Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, in theaters this weekend :D

Hello, Rotte. :) I hope that you don't mind if I try a guess here in your contest. Great idea for your GAW, BTW!!

Is this man known for his poetry?

Guess for the day: William Wordsworth.

Sir Richard Francis Burton?

Thanks for the chance!

OK, I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't delve into more elucidating questions about this fascinating soldier, explorer, adventurer, and author, but you have guessed correctly.

Captain Burton (1821-1890) was a world class traveler and claimed to have discovered the source of the Nile while exploring Africa. (His partner Speke did eventually locate Lake Victoria as the source.) He wrote multiple books about his travels around the world, and helped get the Kama Sutra published in English. He was a knifeaholic and wrote a nifty treatise about swords and sword fighting called, somewhat unimaginatively, The Book of the Sword. I've got a copy and it has some nice illustrations of swords and knives from different areas of the world.

This guy was a rock star in his day--a world tour with sex, drugs, and sword play--but you don't hear much about him now.

Well done js27, drop me a pm with your addy and I'll send #981 out your way. Is this your first Swamp Rat?

Thanks Rotte for the contest! Sorry for getting the correct answer so soon but I had to answer before someone else got it. I first came across Sir Richard in the book "By the Sword" and have been a fan since. This will be my first Swamp Rat.

Congrats. I google'd him when I saw your guess and thought it was a good one. Sounds like a cool dude...

Great contest Rotte, even though I didn't win I found out about a bunch of interesting authors and books while trying

Looks like it will fit in nicely between my Izula and RC/ESEE 3.

Similar knives, but I prefer the Swamp Rat. Now, I love the RC-3, but the Swamp Rat is a nicer knife. The handle is a bit thicker and more comfortable. The steel is thicker and feels really solid. And this sheath is much nicer: Buy Brown does a great job with Kydex.

Of course, I'm keeping my RC-3....:D

Thanks for the chance Rotte, you always seem to come up with great ideas.

Congrats, js27mw11 and thank you for the chance, Rotte!!:thumbup:
