hi folks, i am fairly new to blade forums. i have been looking at some knives to buy. i am totally confused about the wording. like what does SPF mean. PM sent, etc.. if some kind person would let me know what some of these thing mean, i would be very grateful. thanks

Ah-h-h... the shorthand...

SPF=Sold Pending Funds
PM=Private Message (a feature available to registered BF members)
PE=Plain Edge
CE=Combo Edge partially serrated)
SE=Serrated Edge

HTH=Hope this helps

CONUS only= the seller will only ship to the continental United States
PP= PayPal
MO= money order
DC= delivery confirmation
USPS= United States Postal Service
NIB= new in box
LNIB= like new in box
MIB= mint in box
I occasionally see BNIB and I assume that is Bought New in Box??

I only read the title, but as far as I know:
Contractions = things those pregnant womens have before giving birth to young 'uns.

BNIB - Brand New In Box.

Or after my friend bought a Strider termed them.

NIB - New In Baggy
LNIB - Like New In Baggy
BNIB - Brand New In Baggy.

AFAIK = as fas as I know
YMMV = your mileage may vary
IIRC = if I remember correctly
SHTF = sh!t hits the fan
TEOTWAWKI = the end of the world as we know it
BOB = bug-out bag (to be grabbed in the event of TEOTWAWKI)

And... this applies more to some of us than others...
SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed. :D

Those are acronyms.

Contractions are shortened words, usually grouped by an apostrophe; e.g., "let's" instead of "let us."

HTH. :D

Close ... it's only an acronym if the shortened combination of letters is intended to be pronounced as a word. For example, "NASA", "SNAFU" and "AWOL" are acronyms. Something like "SPF" where one would pronounce it by the individual letters "ess pee eff" is actually an abbreviation. ;)

The real meaning of LNIB - USED.

True, but there is a difference between a guy who has carried a knife for a couple months, and the worst problem with it is a scuff on the clip and some lint....

And the other guy, who has sharpened the knife with an old grind stone, mangled the clip, broke a screw, and hammered the blade through a bolt.

I will buy the first, and I prefer to buy used, if used respectfully, but, I shudder at the latter.

And to keep this in the spirit of the thread....

YMMV,
Marion

for the LONGEST time i could never figured out what "PITA" was...i am definately one who will never ask for directions..."SPF" was something i first saw here; it took some searching on old threads, but i got it...

thanks to you all. you are right about the letters being abbreviations. i just couldnt think of the word at the time. i will now make a list of them. take care.
