Close ... it's only an acronym if the shortened combination of letters is intended to be pronounced as a word. For example, "NASA", "SNAFU" and "AWOL" are acronyms. Something like "SPF" where one would pronounce it by the individual letters "ess pee eff" is actually an abbreviation.

for the LONGEST time i could never figured out what "PITA" was...i am definately one who will never ask for directions..."SPF" was something i first saw here; it took some searching on old threads, but i got it...

That's ok. For the longest time I thought STFU meant "step fool." Then it occured to me that it meant "shut the f- up."
