I have a liner lock pattern that I want to convert to a lock back.
Would I use the same pivot hole location for the lock back as I use for the liner lock?
Thanks guys!!
Michael
I'm not an expert but have worked on lockbacks a little before getting frustrated and doing framelocks. So I've compared the two a fair amount. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Your pivot location will probably move because you need more meat behind the pivot for the locking notch. With a liner lock you put it as far back on the tang as possible while still having the tang clear the stop pin or or back spacer. Can't do that with a lockback. The notch has to line up a certain way with the pivot to get the most strength, and then there has to be some meat behind it.
The lower side of the tang will also change shape in order to get the walk and talk right, this is what I could never seem to figure out.
If you haven't already, you might try reading "how to make folding knives" by Walker, Lake and Centofante. Very good book whether your into lockbacks or not.
Good luck
Thanks Matt!!!
I forgot I had that book, lol!
I'll dig it out and work on the pattern with the book and I should be able to work it out. I sure hope so, wanna make this pattern into a scale release auto.
