I tried searching but the search function is down for me. Just got a black heat and looking to do the manual conversion to see how I like it for EDC. can someone post the procedure or a link to the thread where it is discussed?

I have seen a Custom Darrell Ralph Maxx on ebay today that was converted to manual. You could try contacting, Darrell and talk with him. He is really easy to talk to and he frequents this forum.
By the way, welcome to BF.

it's a very simple operation, as the Heat doesn't use a coil spring. Open the knife up, take the liners out (clean them while you're at it) and take the little hook shaped spring out. Then reassemble and your Heat is manual.

yeah thanks, I was just being stupid, I ended up just taking it apart and taking a look.... mod can delete this thread

THe beauty of the Heat's assisted opening mechanism is its simplicity. I've opened up a few other AOs and they're nowhere near as simple. Kershaw's mechanism is nice too, but I like the Robo assist better. SOG's SAT is interesting (I like their piston lock) but sometimes difficult to put back together. And none of the others offer an AO that can be so easily converted to a manual and still work as well (if at all).

No need to take this thread out. That is info I didn't know. And now I do. It was helpful.

I had just converted mine to manual a few days before this post. I thought about taking pictures of the operation, but didn't. Maybe I'll open her up again and see if I can get some pics someday.

If parker770 didn't do it yet, maybe he can post some pics.
