Convex from the factory?

It's a long shot, but what the heck?

Are there any production knives that come from the factory with a convex bevel? Having tried one, I really like it.

Convex secondary bevels are good, a full convex primary/secondary, or a zero bevel would be almost perfect.

Thanks in advance!

I've had one knife that came convexed, maybe 2.
Hogue, (which I did not like at all), and a few of my CRK seem to be convex, wasn't flat. Not sure if intentional or just shark hands at the wheel.

The edge bevels on CRK's are indeed convex, and are done that way on purpose. I would personally prefer CRK's edge bevels to be a flat V-grind to better complement their knives' excellent primary hollow grind, but convex is how they prefer it.

Thanks, fellas, I didn't think there were any!

While we're at it, does one of the sharpening systems make it easier than the others to turn a factory edge into a convex edge? I can practice on my CRKT Razel (which is halfway there, anyway), but it would be nice to know it's going to end up symmetrical.....

I remember reading up on the work sharp and I'm almost certain it will do it.

Cold Steel's San Mai Trail Master, Recon Scout, and Ghurka Kukri, all have true convex blade grinds. The all have big radius's at the edge, which mimics an acute angle, which is great for cutting, but not so much for durability. Fallkniven's equivalent San Mai knives are basically the same grind.
(sorry Lynn, please don't send a letter)

Hess Knives, thin flat ground with convex edges.
1095 steel with very good heat-treatment and scary sharp out of the box.

Yes. And full convex, as opposed to the others mentioned, line BRK, which are flat ground, and convexed for just the final 1/4th or so of the blade.

That might be the case with some BRKs, but on the BRK models I have, primary grind is fully convexed. No flat sections.

I have BRK's with full height convex grinds.

Hi Mikael! It that a recent development? In the past, I recall them being about 3/4 flat, and not a full "apple seed" convex. Or were there always some full convex grinds?

Yes John, BRK has made full convex grinds for a long time, so it's not a novelty for them.
They do other grinds as well, like the BBK II with a shallow hollow sabergrind and with a wide secondary bevel.
Quite unusual but it works!

What I often do is sharpen 15 per side on the EdgePro then add a 20 per side micro bevel with the SharpMaker. This yields a durable edge that's easy to touch up on the SM.
My only convex knives are my CRKs but they all came off the Exchange here and one was already resharpened and not to my liking. I re-did that one as above and find it neither better nor worse than sharp factory edges on my others .
Do others of you feel otherwise or have a different experience?
