Convex Grind Zero Edge FBM

More pics just added!

Wow. I didn't think there was enuf steel to get rid of CBT and convex and edge. Is the blade not as "tall" anymore b/c of it. How much did the edge get moved back to do both the CBT removal and convexing?

There is still quite a bit of meat left in the blade. The overall weight is slightly less than a CGFBM. I would guess about 25 percent or so lighter. The height of the blade was not at all altered. The overall blade profile remained the same.

405Dave,
The one you mention is work in progress.

That may be the perfect FBM BAN.

Just wow. An you know I have some wicked convex knives to compare against.

That thing is off the coolness scale..... You set a bar with that one man.

WOW, the CBT is GONE:eek::eek:
How thick is it now?

It is about .220 along the convexed spine according to my cheapy mic here at work. The ricasso and handle tang is at .235 after removing all of the dimples. It is definately lighter than the original but still quite hefty compared to my FABM. The convex grind leaves quite a bit of metal on the middle peak of the blade vs a flat grind with similar thickness spine.

i'm impressed, it looks like you leave a lil more meat than porkducci does, which should add to the strength or the knife. nice lighting btw

Damn!

Ban told me about this one and I wanted to see it first hand but I have been too busy.

I would have made time if I knew it was that nice.

The finish looks great and I can't see any ugly spots.

If my Pumpkin FFBM turns out as nice, I will be very pleased but I may have to get another CG for this treatment.

I'm glad to see people are still thinking of me!

Great job Ban, is it yours to try out?

I have a CG FFBM I'm going to do some mods on too as soon as I can get the grinder fired up. Mine doesn't have the corragated bevels on it, so I'll take the weight out in other ways.

Yeah this one was a experimental piece of my own. I don't think I want to be experimenting with other people's precious knives without knowing the outcome

I honestly had no idea how this one was going to turn out when I started. I just knew that I wanted a convex grind LOL!

You can do a full flat ground on the FFBM and it will reduce quite a bit of weight. It will end up to be a slightly thinner version of the FBMLE.

Glad it turned out great, I would hate to think of you in the back yard burying a mistake. I think I hear the sound of taps being played softly in the rain.

So come on BAN! Where is the video of you chopping through a 2x4 in 4 chops? :D

Sorry to disappoint buddy! I spent most of the day and evening finishing up the work in progress sibling of this convex grind FBM. I am using a hybrid grind on it. I started off with a flat grind to remove all of the CBTs and finished off with a convex grind to the edge and blend everything in. The advantage of this was to removed some additional weight and still get the advantages of the convex edge. The other big advantage is to be able to get a more aesthetically pleasing plunge line that is very hard to achieve with a full convex grind. I am hoping to finish it up tomorrow and take some pics of it before the owner picks it up.

FWIW, I did try chopping with it and it performed marvelously as expected. It will outchop my FABM at the cost of more weight.
