Convex?

Thanks for all the info. I think I might start off by trying a convex edge on my Spyderco Endura. If I don't particularly like the results, I'll stick with free handing it or using my Sharpmaker when it arrives. I've never tried sharpening the 11 or 17 on the Sharpmaker, so we'll see how that goes first. I know some people have been very happy with their Sharpmakers, and since I've started using a sharpie I've had good results doing it free hand. Do people typically sharpen their smaller knives with the convex edge, or is it usually just preferred on large outdoor blades? I rotate between a combination of the 17 with an 11 and the 17 with an Endura.
 
Its no problem to use a stone freehand on a convex edge. Thats what Jerry is doing in that video. However a strop is great and easy to make. Its mostly all you need to maintain the edge.
