spent a couple hours convexing the edge on my millie.

labor intensive, but worth it i think. i may still work a little on the shoulder, it is more pronounced than i had hoped.

very sharp, and hopefully easy to maintain.

it may be the lighting but it looks like you scrached the hell out of your blade. I did the same thing to mine, but I did mine with a knife grinder in 2min/w a nice strop :p

Absolutely! I convexed my milie awhile ago and it took a loooong time (BG42). But it is definitely well worth it.

I found the same to be true with my milie too.

Yes, easily my sharpest knife now and much easier to maintain as compared to using my sharpmaker. However, I would not recommend this for everyone. If you are not familiar with convexing blades I wouldn't go practicing on your milie. Start with a cheap SAK and get the hang of it first. I found the milie to be exceptionally hard to convex. YMMV.

AK

P.S. Yes, I scratched the blade quite a bit too.

Scratches or not.Man that is sweet:thumbup:...you plan on slicing atoms with that?:D

That looks good. Its hard to beat a convex edge

on a side note, I have found a strip of 3mm neoprine under the sand paper gives me the best results.
I use that method for most of my kitchen knives.

I grind at three different angles when sharpening and all my edges end up that way. I guess it starts out with re-profiling at ten degrees per side, but nonetheless they end up convex.
I agree that it's the best way to sharpen.
(and for heavens sake get some diamonds, it makes the whole process go ten times faster.)

Be careful with the thinned tip on that Military. Mine was so pointy it would slide into the palm of your hand with just the weight of the knife (most knives can rest point down on your hand without penetrating). Unfortunately that tip also breaks off incredibly easily... like, cleaning your fingernails easy. After re-profiling it for the second time I gave up and made it a micro tanto.

Love that Mili.

the scratches aren't that noticeable in person. the lighting magnified the scratches, and minimized the convex visual.

but its also been a user, so it was all scratched up anyway.

You guys want to see some really sharp,micro-thin edges?Checkout some of So-Lo's knives. He could probably shave with all of them...& I'm not taking about arm hair, more like a full grown beard.

@Joshua J., that is a beautiful convex!

At one time there was a convexing video series on youtube by nozh2002. Pretty cool stuff.

Thank you!
It's a lot of hard work to shape the edge initially, but definitely worth it in the end. Though in this case the camera did a lot of the work, I'm also very pleased with how the pictures turned out. Normally taking pictures indoors is a huge pain, but with a small tripod and long exposure it worked pretty well.

I convexed the edge on my Military a couple of years ago. It turned an already sharp knife into my sharpest modern folder.

I just knock the shoulder off and use a strop on it after the edge is convexed.

Done it on almost all my much used Spydies. On the hollow ground ones it is just the edge.

Only the saber ground ones get anything resembling a full convex grind.
