The old Clipper need a good sharpening and I had a new 400 Grit belt that I wanted to try so I convexed it It really turned out well and is one sharp M..ora. There is a little reflection on the tip that isn't really there. It will push cut a hanging sheet of paper like a dream.

Cool work! I'm fixin' to get a Delta 1x42 grinder around the holidays and just might do the same to my Moras.

That looks really interesting, Jim. I want to hear how it works on wood.

BTW, not as a critique, or anything, but isn't that somewhat blasphemous - akin to putting a scandi edge on a Bark River?????

JK. Let us know how it works.

I did one about a year ago and It works great!!
I let folks use it quite a bit to get the feel of a scandi edge as apposed to a convex edge. I like 'em both, and my jury is still out as to which one performs better. I have had folks say the convexed one is like a little lazer. I think for wood the scandi gives ya a little more control and for overall the convex holds up a little longer between stroppings.
good stuff!!

i have convexed a mora before with good results...

all of my own blades that are scandi are actually convexed, similar to the job you did there, so almost flat but it has that nice curve to it.

good looking job, nice and even. what model grinder are you using?

Mine is just the Harbor Freight 1x30. It works real well. My son has had one for a year now. I have used this one a lot wood working as well. For the money they are hard to beat. If I ever get things ready to send, I am still sending you same long ones and a couple of those power Hacksaw blades.

Thanks for the good words guys.

This one has always been used as a deer hunting/skinning knife but I am curious to see how it whittles.

you probably already know about them, but the blue klingspor belts from leevalley are great for grinding steel. they only come as fine as 120 grit, but they are good for roughing out blades and repairing damaged edges. they also carry fine belts by 3M

the 1x30 is a mighty little machine...apart from stalling out the motor trying to grind on wood, it seems as though there isn't too much it can't do. i would love to get a "real" grinder, but apart from a contact wheel i'm really not missing much.
