Convince me on the bugout- should I get one?

I have carried a bugout almost exclusively since they came out. It pried me away from Spyderco. I did try a lightweight para 3 for about three weeks. Sold the para off and went back to my Bugout. I carry it on duty, and it gets used a lot. It has tackled everything I have thrown at it, cutting seatbelt material, wires, boxes, wood, etc. I have absolutely no complaints at all.

If you go into with a pre conceived expectation it is going to feel like a well built solid knife, you will be disappointed. It doesn't feel like a Para 2 or some other G10 handled EDC knife. That isn't a bad thing though, because it disappears when carrying it. When you use it, you never feel like it isn't capable. Yeah the handles will flex a tad, but you won't notice it when in use. Only when you intentionally squeeze them.

I have considered getting some G10 scales, but I can't really see the point. Mine started life as the blue versions, and I modded them with black scales, and removed the blue ano.

Benchmade did a good job on the design of the Bugout, as you get a lot of blade in a small package. The blade to handle ratio is perfect.

I highly recommend picking one up, if you aren't impressed with it when you first get it, give a bit, It will grow on you and you won't likely carry anything else after the Bugout.

The Bugout doesn't have inlayed scales, of fancy curves. It wasn't built to win most innovative knife of the year. It was built to perform as an excellent EDC.

Where did you get this thumb stud?

Those scales are amazing. I’m on the fence about keeping the micarta scales or getting some non-flexing ones. Do g10 scales flex as much as micarta?
Any of you have copper scales? Is flytanium the only one making those?

Personally, it just wasn't very comfortabe in my hand. It's a really nice knife but the handle was a little thin and straight to work for me. Seemed like the perfect comb to not fit my hand for some reason. Wanted to like it just wasn't for me.

Have had one for a few months so far, coming from the G10 mini-grip and various Spydercos. For me, what the bugout brings to the table is a high blade length to stock thickness ratio. Very thin slicy thickness with decent grind and length of well over 3”. More forward balance due to the light scales is a downside for me, but that’s possibly more of a not used to it yet rather than a true hinderance. Time will tell. But that blade

I like the bugout as well. But I'm not carrying mine as much anymore. Since I have moved from field work to mostly office work my knife rotation has been upgraded to a higher level. I did just add a new member to my collection that will allow for the bugout to see more pocket time again. I should add I have rock scale design titanium scales with left hand carry only. That's why it's been benched. It was at one point one of my most carried. Now with the newest version. I think you will see a ton of the older ones popping up very soon. I might grab a few myself for some of my family members. They are great light weight knives.20191203_083251.jpg
Edit. Added a recycled picture next to a natrix g-10/CF-inlay for size reference

The original scales are extremely flexible, far more than g-10. I just made a post about this. I recommend you get the base one with the bendy zytel scales so they don't get damaged. Get the knife though, it's such a dream and they really nailed it. The ergos, the weight, the action, the small size with an equal little deep carry clip, the slicing power of the blade... It's all great!

Just got a Bugout after ignoring it since it came out. I thought, meh, a nice little knife, but I didn't get it. I have other Benchmades, and knives from ZT, Spyderco and others but this thing is all you need in an EDC and nothing more. Love it.

I beat the shit out of mine. It gets used for everything from cutting fruit to hacking small plants in the garden. Since I got it I've made it a point to put it through it's paces. It hasn't let me down. Mine had terrible lock stick when it arrived and it's not centered worth a damn but I can't seem to kill it either. Light as a feather and slices nicer than most of my other knives and the edge holds well enough.

I went looking at the bugout with purpose over a year ago and could not get past the uncomfortable shortness of the handle - ever so slightly shorter than I want, so, I ended up with a 940, after ignoring them for years. Wish I had not ignored the 940 for so long! I didn't like the cartridge design, depending on the plastic scales for rigidity, but the G10 model won me over.

Anyway, I was totally happy with the Osborne until the Mediator came along, now I have to consciously choose my carry every day. The Mediator is everything I was looking for in the Bugout, and the auto launch is just icing on the cake. It's handle is just enough longer than the Bugout for me to be comfortable with it.

To each, their own, right? Enjoy!
