Convince me on the Sage 2

Alright I need some help here. I have been flying through knives lately and just can't seem to find one that's "right". In the past few weeks I have ordered a bunch of knives, got them in the mail and opened them up and instantly realized they were not "the one" and just sold them right away. These have included a Kershaw Tilt, Spyderco M390 para, and Spyderco M390 mili. All were beautiful knives, but I just knew I wouldn't use them.

I have also been considering getting a small sebenza, but I don't think I will be able to get myself to carry it. For some reason I never really noticed/payed attention to the Sage line, but in the past few weeks they have really sparked my interest with the release of the 4.

Anyone here a fan of the Sage 2? I am really leaning towards this one. After going through all of my latest expensive knives I realized that what I really wanted was a full titanium scaled knife. My grail would truly be a H1 titanium scaled knife, but the Sage 2 is looking pretty nice too. The only thing really holding me back is the fluted Native on the horizon, but I know it will be impossible to find. Any thoughts?

Sage 2 is my primary EDC blade. I sold a Sebenza that was my previous primary EDC. Overall it's a great knife. I like the blade shape, I think it is perfect for general EDC uses. My only gripe with the sage two is that it did not come with a lanyard hole. I took mine apart and with the help of a drill press rectified that situation.

I know what you mean about the upcoming fluted native though. I have been pondering purchasing one of those as well as the upcomingTechno. The Techno has a thicker blade than I usually like but the design seems to speak to me. Then again there is the Chaparall 2 stealth...That is another awesome looking little knife. I really have a thing for Ti scaled knives also. I wish I could afford every one that spyderco offers.

Back to the Sage two. It is the first knife I seriously considered buying a second one just so I would always have a backup. Just before I pulled the trigger I saw news about the Techno and fluted Native. (I think the Fluted Native was the 2011 Blade American made knife of the year...we've been waiting awhile.) I can't recommend The Sage 2 highly enough. In the unlikely event that I find a better primary knife, I can't imagine ever taking my sage two out of rotation.

The Sage 2 gets good reviews, sometimes called the poor man's Sebenza. I'm not a frame lock fan and it even looks good to me.

I would like to hear what people don't like about the sage 2. To me it is as gdwtvb said above. The first knife that I know I will be buying again. With a heavy heart I am trading my sage 2 for a discontinued bradley alias. I know I can get another sage 2 and thats the only reason why I am willing to part with it. I don't know when another Bradley will come around. It is in my opinion the ideal size, weight and blade shape for an EDC knife. If you buy it at a good price and don't like it look me up and I will buy it from you. In my opinion it would be impossible to convince you NOT to buy a Sage 2.

Thanks for the input everyone, I just purchased one. I'll post an update when I get it.

I am not a lanyard guy, but couldn't you secure a lanyard to the post between the pocket clip mounts?

I have never heard anything bad about Sage 2. It is my favorite knife right now. I also have a Sage 3 and love it too. I use it a bit harder and get it a bit dirtier than the 2, but do not baby the 2. I have a few small scratches on the Ti, but only buy knives to be used. I have also seen guys buy a Sage 1 and Sage 2 and make hybrids out of them and would love to do that myself.

I have to stop reading/watching videos about all the Sages or else I am going to end up with a whole set very soon.

I have the Sage 1 and 2 and I'm eying the 4. Top notch quality, super smooth to deploy and ergonomics are excellent. Because it's not super expensive, I'm not afraid to use it. It's an excellent EDC, you're going to love it!

My sage 2 is my "go to" knife for carrying. Been that way for over a year now. And i use it a lot at work too. Flat out one of the best knives around.

After finding this thread on the Spyderco forums, I felt that the tension on the Sage 2 lockbar was too much, so I bent it back a tad and it has buttery smooth deployment now. I still have a bad habit of having my fingers contact it while opening it, which doesn't help. I find it difficult to open a framelock without a clip installed.

Honestly, I have owned the sage 2 and sold it because I love the sage 1 "WAY BETTER". Don't get so hooked on the whole titanium handle thing. Honestly, I think that is just so overrated. The sage 1 just felt so much more comfortable in the hand IMHO.

I typically carry a knife slipped into my pocket with no clip. This includes a mini-ritter with Wilkins grips, small Sebenza, or a Mnandi. If I carry a knife clipped to my pocket it is almost always a Sage 2. Very easy on the pocket due to the wire clip. Slices better than a Sebenza could ever even dream about. Spyderco nailed the construction and steel on the Sage 2.

Hopefully I don't get too much gruff here. I've owned a Sage 2 and it's a great knife. But, a small sebbie replaced it. I say you go ahead and grab a small seb if you've been running thru knives. One downside to the sage 2 (at least for me) is that I felt it carried "bigger" than it was/should have. Because of the leaf shape and the spydie hole it really kinda felt bigger in my pocket than I liked, and especially for the blade length.

Probably would have kept my Sage 2 if it had the action of the Chokwe. Nailed the lock bar tension/detent on that knife.

gdwtvb has it right...

My Sage 2 is one of my favorites. I've been wanting to order a backup. Ti fluted Native and Techno are preordered, so Sage 2 will have to wait. Sage 2 F&F are excellent. Blade is hair popping sharp. I had a Sage 3 for a couple of days. Bolt lock had issues, I returned it. For an extra $30 Sage 2 is a much better knife. Ti scale surface not the best for grip. But this knife is used as a gentleman's knife. For power cutting I edc the 710, CS Rajah 2, or CS XL Voyager, all with skateboard tape patches applied for extra grip.

I can honestly say that this is the finest Spyderco I have ever owned. The fit and finish are flawless on this one. I have owned countless models and none have had such perfect centering, lockup and overall finish. This is my first Taichung Spydie and it definitely won't be my last.

In terms of the actual knife design it is "perfect" in my eyes. I really like the 3 inch leaf shaped blade, and the titanium RIL is stunning. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the clip but it is extremely strong and makes the knife nearly invisible in your pocket.

I'm not quite sure why I ignored the Sage line for so long but now I am hooked.

The Sage 2 Is My Only Sage(So Far) But It's One Of The Greatest Spyderco Knives I Own. Along With My Chokwe, It's All Perfect.
The Sage 2 Is Absolutely Excellent And I Carry It Daily, I Was Going To Trade It For Another Ti Frame Lock. But I Can't Get Myself To Do It. It's One Of My Favorites And I Don't Believe It Will Ever Go Anywhere. I've Loved The Ti Frame Lock Knives And Then When I Finally Got A Ti Frame Lock I Was In Love. My First Was The Sage 2, Second Was The Chokwe, And The Third Is Going To Be A Leafstorm I Believe.

Congrats On Your New Knife, You'll Continue To Love It. I Love The Beefy-Ness Of It, And It's A Small Knife But A Beast. It's Wonderful.

Oh And I Did The Lanyard Through The Clip. I Just Slid It Behind The Clip, I've Done The Same With 3 Other Knives. My Sage 2, My Chokwe, My UKPK, And My Byrd Tern.
