Convince Me to Buy a Hinderer

Hey all,

This is my first post in the Hinderer forum, before this I was a constant reader/poster in the Kershaw/ZT forum. As you all know, KAI has shut down their forum so I am now a nomad. I absolutely LOVE my ZT 0550 and 0560, both of which are Hinderer design. I have a Kershaw Thermite, Cryo II, and ZT 0566 on pre-order as well. My dilemma is: should I just bite the bullet and buy a real Hinderer? If so, I am a college student, how can I justify the price tag for such a knife? Or should I just keep on with my Kershaws? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Keep your eye on the exchange and you will be able to get one at a reasonable price. There is nothing like a hinderer. Handle one and you will see.

IMO - You are doing great with your growing collection. You are at a time in your life where hard work and sacrifice can (will) lead to personal rewards in both the tangible and the intangible.
Certainly a Hinderer is a worthy goal and one that perhaps can lay at the end of the journey in the form of a tangible reward for a goal met.
Just a thought but then again I have two (2) in college and as for my College days - my post would have been "Convince me to sell plasma and buy food instead of beer" but, forums and for that matter computers hadn't been invented so .......
Let Family know what might be an appreciated Graduation gift and see what happens.

I think you have a good idea. It would make a great graduation gift to myself! Let the waiting begin...

Any tips on a place that would allow me to handle one? I've looked just about everywhere around here haha!

Rather than look at the period of time as "waiting" look at it as the research phase, in time you will be an expert and know exactly what you might like.
You may even have some accessories ready to go when the "Host" arrives. They don't go bad :)

Hang around, I wager you will meet up with a Member that is close by or passing through.

Welcome to the Hinderer sub forum, I think you will enjoy the crowd, you will find little or no drama but many helpful posters with great moderators. Read the stickies for general guidelines and useful information. I am assuming by your avatar that you may be An EMT, if so contact Rob Orlando for special First Responder pricing, if not there are deals to be had on the exchange.

Rubi hit the nail on the head as far as college and the "want vs need" situation. You have mentioned the knives you currently have, all great knives, some folks just consolidate their collection by selling off what they have and put those funds into a Hinderer. Everyone here has their own path to the ultimate acquisition of a Hinderer, but either way enjoy the comradery while on your journey.

if your in EMS, as I would imagine you are..... you can get one direct from Rick, and Rob, the justifications are many. First you are extremely privileged in being among the select few who can both buy directly from Hinderer, and then actively carry and use this knife for its intended purpose SAVING LIVES..... Those two justifications trump the following: its going to be one of your favorite possessions, its going to be with you forever, like a trusty loyal dog that will never die (sorry pet lovers) and it will bring you back to every cool adventure you've ever shared with it after you've hung up your cape, and are rocking in a chair splitting apples for your grandkids pie,,,,

You're spot on haha. I am a part time EMT, and I had no idea there was a direct order program. That makes the idea of buying a Hinderer even more appealing! Ahh this is almost torture haha. Thanks for all the replies, I was not expecting this much of a response.

Get your "cash right" and fire off an e-mail to Mr. Orlando sometime after the "holiday". They will be returning from Vegas and need time to get situated but you'll know far more what options are available to you and such.

If a 3.5 is the goal, may need to move quicker than if seeking a 3" or 24 as 3.5s are current but we have no idea for how long. Always would be sweet; but it's a small shop, so things have run in cycles / batches.

Keep us informed.

Happy hunting.

You'll invest in one. You might be like me and trade--sell a few..
WHAT I DO know..
I have always come back to Mr Hinderers Knives and or stashed one back to say I always have one.
THEY ARE worth the MONEY in my opinion.
ABSOLUTELY outstanding quality....
BUILT like a tank.
Simply one of the BEST KNIVES in 10 years + of collecting I have EVER had the pleasure of owning.
I love them and I am certain IF YOU PULL the trigger you will enjoy them as well..

My 2cents on that..

-Keith

If you're an EMT, it's a no brainer; buy direct. Sell some other knives to fund a Hinderer purchase. I have LOTS of knives and my XM-18 is still my favorite..

Get one. If you handle one you will see why they are worth the money.

Same boat here. I appreciate the offer of a discount for Fire and EMS, as many manufacturers and retailers only acknowledge Mil and LE for discount pricing. EMT's are by far not the richest of public safety personnel, as if any of us are!

I like the idea of employing a milestone to reward oneself with such a prize. I stand at 25 Years of service and I intend to have an XM-18 with my name on it some day soon and have no desire to lock it away in a dark safe!

Definitely agree with this! Adds some significance to an already special acquisition.

Then again, the last milestone I rewarded myself with a Hinderer for was called "Monday"......

Let me add some truth to this discussion -

A Hinderer will:

Cut through steel doors

Allow you to walk on water

Chop a tree in half effortlessly

Slice like a razor blade

Make many other knives seem inferior

^^^^ most all of that is true :D
