Convince me to buy or not buy the ZT 0450CF

Have it, love it. Feels like an assisted opener but its not. Awesome quality knife! Get it.

I just got a zt 0450 and its awesome. Fantastic fit and finish, smoooooth, looks great.
I love the 3.25 inch blade, very functional.
It hits all the good catagories and I have yet to find anything I don't like about this knife.
It carries great, but still feels like a sturdy, substancial tool.
Get it

0452CF if you have big hands 0450CF if you have medium hands 0462 if you have persian hands :D

If you like the knife, then by all means, I can't think of a single reason to not get one.

In my opinion, the best knife ZT has made. I like ZT, and have had more than a few. They are well built, and chunky. The 450 is well built and elegant.

I have the regular 0450 as I prefer the satin blade but it's a great knife. There's nothing to dislike otherwise. It's very sleek and just looks like a good functional ti knife. And I love flipping mine. I also have a brand new 0460CF which is even cooler but not as functional.

Do you want it, and can afford it?
Then buy it.

Do you not want it, or can't afford it?
Then don't buy it.

Make an informed decision and decide whether you like it or not based on your own opinions. Many folks love the Buck 110, and will say that everyone HAS to own one. I have handled them on numerous occasions, and I don't dig them. They are too heavy for my tastes.

The 450 was too small for my hand.

What's the old saying?
Opinions are like...

The cf is too tacticool for me. If it where me I’d get a anodized ti one from USA made blade.

I'm going to give you the same answer I give everybody that comes here wanting to be convinced one way or the other...
DON'T DO IT
If you need to be convinced, you don't REALLY want it; so you should save your money for when you come across the knife that you do want.

I have two zts, an 0804cf and a 0220. The quality of their machining is rather impressive. Some of the most well finished knives I have ever owned. Here is some of ZTs pros
PROS:
Generally great quality
AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE I cant stress enough how good KAI's customer service is.
Great materials, and generally a good price for what you get
They generally come sharp
They are pretty tough, and even though both of mine are "overbuilt" framelocks, they are actually ground pretty dang thin. My 0804cf especially is super thin. The 0220 it thin in the belly and recurve, (i think under .030 is what I miced it at.)

Some cons:
Their sharpening choils suck hairy horse balls (im sorry if that is inappropriate, if so MOD please ley me know and I will censer.
Sometimes their construction is.... not the best. Such as using free spinning pivots and standoffs that are not shouldered. (for the price of the 0450 and purpose not a problem IMO but it bugs me on my models that the screws go right into the titanium.)
Their facotry edges are a little obtuse for my tastes, usualy over 40 degrees, not a big deal though if you can sharpen.

Overall even though I dont own that particular knife, the pros of ZT out weighs where they tend to fall short in my opinion. If you like the design it will probably be a good knife lol

Cons:
  • You already have a Bugout, which is some ways very similar and a better slicer to boot
  • It has a narrow handle which bothers some folks
Pros:
  • It flips better than the Bugout (though the Bugout is pretty easy to middle finger flick using the thumb stud if you're into that)
  • It's a good looking knife
  • Buying knives is fun
  • Just buy it, you obviously like it
  • We're enablers, why are you reading this?
  • These aren't even pros, just buy buy buy
  • Did I mention they're pretty? Here's my cfzdp version:

I’ve been carrying the 0450 in my EDC rotation for awhile now. ZT quality through and through. Lightning fast and smooth.
The downside is that some of the 0450 guys have had a complaint about the clip and some guys think it’s a touch to small. I replaced my clip with the mxg gear deep carry clip.

I like the 0450 so much I bought the 0450cf.

The 0450 series isn’t my favorite knife, but it’s one of those I have zero problems recommending.

Perfect thread for me as I am also considering getting the the ZT 0450cf.
I like the carbon fiber but not the black blade. Maybe 0450 in titanium?
I have a ZT 0452, which is very similar just a lot bigger I think. The 0450 just seems a good choice to carry when not wanting scary long blades.

Yeah I agree, I’m not super crazy about the black blade, but I love the carbon fiber. I would love it if they had a satin blade for the 0450CF.

ZT does not make a knife that “does it” for me, and that includes the 0450cf. ZT makes Knives of quality materials but their build method is consistently inadequate. I have much more expensive knives but $180 is a lot of scratch to drop on something that doesn’t pretty well blow your skirt up. I advise you to save a little more and meanwhile patiently wait for a 3” XM-18 to come up on the exchange.

What do you mean by “build method”?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. To me, comparing the 0450cf to the 3" XM-18 isn't even close. The 0450cf new is half the price of the XM-18 used, it weighs a third less (or more, depending on the XM configuration) and it's also pretty much guaranteed to flip approximately eleventeen thousand times better than the Hinderer.

As for ZT's "build method" being "consistently inadequate", what does that even mean? I'm confused as to what a Hinderer knife could possibly be used for that a comparable model ZT couldn't also perform just as well at.

Hahaha, yeah, not too many people understand my knife addiction:D It doesn’t take much to convince me to buy one:D

o_O But you opened a thread asking to be convinced to buy that knife.

If you want it, buy it.

I wouldn't. I don't like ZTs.
