Convince me to buy or not to buy a PM2

Spydercos in general are designed and ground to cut. If you only cut things, a Spyderco will serve you better than just about anything out there.

On the PM2 I would be careful about prying with the tip. They are very accute; good for piercing and slicing, bad for prying.

What's good? The PM2 is good. They can be had inexpensively. They show up on the exchange all the time in excellent condition. I have three of them, two M390s and a black/digicam S30V. If cost is the main objection, just get one of the S30V ones. Should be able to pick them up off the exchange for about $100 in almost new condition. If you want the 'best' one, I think that's the M390 one (IMHO, YMMV and all that). That'll run you about $200 after shipping because it's a dealer exclusive, unless you get one off the exchange.

What not to do with it?

Pry. It's a slicer and a cutter, not a prybar. All of mine have a very acute edge, and it is very pointy.

Abuse it. It's not a Strider or a Medford or a whatever other brand whose major claim to fame is near-indestructibility. Construction, materials, and lock mechanism are all strong, but not really designed to be abused. It's a knife, meant to cut things, which it does very well.

So basically the tip is weak for prying, but this would be a good hunting knife yes? I'm looking for just a good knife that will last me a long time.

just buy the PM2, if you dont like it, Sell it and someone will for sure buy it. its worth it tho.

you should never Pry anything with a folding knife, AT ALL, thats what a pry bar is for, or a Medford.

Yes, it's a Excellent knife, that will last you a long time!
No issues with it, for hunting or anything else, that a knife should be used for!
It's not a screwdriver or a pry bar..
It works on wild game, cooking, construction sites, etc.. For cutting.. lol..
I Love the 3, I narrowed my PM2 status, down to!

Get one and I think the knife itself, once in hand, will be all the convincing you ever needed. Then, I defy you to have just one. You will likely want to try different steels and handle materials.

Also, if you get one, PLEASE DON'T get one from that auction site. Go to an authorized Spyderco dealer or get one from an upstanding member here who is selling it on the exchange. You may very well pay less to someone here or an authorized dealer (vs. that auction site) and you will certainly be much, MUCH less likely to stumble over a counterfeit Spyderco. On that auction site, you have to be very careful.

Why get it ?

The action; very pleasing in hand.
The handle; if you are like me and like a full size handle.
The busings / washers; they are bronze not wimpy, wimpy, wimpy teflon (i get tired of opening a brand new knife and the teflon washers are already cracked or damaged.
The strength to weight; a compact knife (not a thick or heavy handle) but very strong and well designed . . . a SOLID tool.
The blade steel; a great selection of superior alloys to choose from.

I could go on but as Chris said : get one and and the knife will sell its self . . . you won't be sorry.

PM2s are all over the exchange like crazy. Seems like every other post in "Production Folders for Sale" is a PM2 being sold.

Buy one and give it a shot, I like them a lot, but Like others have said...if you don't like it they are easy to pass along here on the Exchange.

If you need convincing then don't buy it.

I can't disagree with that logic.
Clearly, there are many who love the PM2; and they're generally more outspoken than those that are more ambivalent, or just don't care for it.
The fact that you created this thread shows you're at least interested in it...so do a little soul searching & decide if you want to try it enough to get one in your hands. Once it's there, you'll decide for yourself if you like it.

Agreed. And it can always be sold on the exchange should the OP be less than thrilled with his purchase. Para2's sell in record time usually.

Which makes me curious. If the PM is so great, why are so many people trying to unload them?

They're not everyone cup of tea and they're hyped to moon on the internet.

OP I have a blurple PM2 and it's a nice knife I have medium to large hands and they just barely fit in the handle itself so keep that in mind. It has a nice locking mechanism you can open it an close it without flipping it over or putting your finger in the path of the blade. My blurple is nice and non offensive people actully kind f like it because it doesn't look stabby or aggressive. It's a no kidding nice knife that is absolutely as emotionally appealing as my oven

One thing I like a lot about Spyderco is they have a great variety in configuration for the same or quite similar blade shapes

"So many people" requires perspective. What we don't know is how many people buy them and don't sell them. If 3 PM2s show up on the exchange in a day, that is a lot if only 4 PM2s were bought by members here, but not so much if 10 or 15 were bought by members here. We just don't know the whole story. Additionally, we don't know why people sell them. If you buy one to compare it to, say a Millie, and you prefer the Millie, it doesn't mean that you don't love the PM2. Maybe you can only keep one. Who knows? Your question is simple enough, but I think the real reasons folks sell is anything but clear.
