Convince me to buy or not to buy a PM2

Which makes me curious. If the PM is so great, why are so many people trying to unload them?
Well put vvvvvv
"So many people" requires perspective. What we don't know is how many people buy them and don't sell them. If 3 PM2s show up on the exchange in a day, that is a lot if only 4 PM2s were bought by members here, but not so much if 10 or 15 were bought by members here. We just don't know the whole story. Additionally, we don't know why people sell them. If you buy one to compare it to, say a Millie, and you prefer the Millie, it doesn't mean that you don't love the PM2. Maybe you can only keep one. Who knows? Your question is simple enough, but I think the real reasons folks sell is anything but clear.
To add to it.. for myself.. I had to try each one.. lol..
First a typical black/satin.. then a black/black. Then camo/black. Foliage Green/Elmax.
Black/satin got sold..
Then a Orange/DLC CTS-XHP.. black/black got sold..
Then Foliage Green scales and the Orange scales got sold..
Had a blurple/s110v.. didn't do blurple.. sold it..
Etc....
Probably missed a couple.. lol..
Down to 3 PM2's..
Camo/black would be the next to go, if I sold another one..

Circle of the Spyderco's.. lol..

Well, I can work with that. I have three myself and though they are not on the top of my 'most used' knife list, neither are they on the bottom. Hmmm, perhaps I should check out the Exchange. ;)

I have liked Spyderco knives for well over 20 years, last year decided to try a PM2,,, today have 4 with one more inbound.

The PM2 has been my EDC for about 7 months, all the others in storage.

I have been EDC's my PM2 off and on between my ZT 0909. I am one of those that finds the PM2 meh. In fact I have sold two on the exchange in the past and decided to give a third one a try.

I will say, that if you are going to get a single Spyderco, the PM2 would be my choice to show what they are about. US made and designed by Sal and Eric. Classic Spyder blade shape, grind and their lock design.

They could probably run the company just off that knife using different steels and handle materials.

I like the PM2 enough to buy two of them. I don't know why people sell them but one on the exchange this morning took all of 19 minutes to sell.

I bought myself a PM2 for Christmas this year and find myself in the "Meh" camp. Its a good knife, but I dont love it - the action isnt as smooth as I was expecting and the compression lock is a bit stiff. That being said, its still almost new so I expect it to break in...if I keep it that long. I came from the flipper category and it would appear thats where I belong.

I'm not a paid member, so the Exchange isnt an option for me.

I occasionally (very occasionally) carry a PM2...usually when I have a conscious thought about wanting a lighter knife for whatever reason, or think about the $$$ invested between knife and aftermarket scales. Once I grab one, I'll usually manage to pocket it for a couple of days before switching back to one of my regular carries.

Volume of sales, I would guess. It's a flagship model that is a highly popular user, but there are so many variations of them that it's also popular to collect. Since even the most expensive PM2 is only around $200 and an excellent condition base model can be had for under $100, there's a low entry bar. I would reckon that most Bladeforums members do not actually have $20,000 CRK collections or dozens of full custom knives. But the number who can afford and are interested in the $100-$250 range for knives is probably pretty high.

The next step up IMHO would be CRKs, and those are also widely available but also very fast-moving in the Exchange, probably for many of the same reasons- CRKs are a relatively affordable entry point into the midtech/custom-tech/super-production world, hold their value fairly well, and have a few base models with countless variations and limited editions.

My personal experience in the Exchange is that mid- to high-end productions with a steady fan base are the easiest thing to move.

Convince you? I think maybe you already know you will get one but ok...
The Para 2 is easy to sell so in the rather unlikely event of you not liking it, you can easily move it on. And then you will know.

The S30V Para2 is a real goldilocks folder for me, not too this, not too that, just right in so many ways. You should get one.
Or pay twice as much, get an M390 version and replace the smurf blue with custom scales of your choice, throw in a ti lanyard tube and a deep carry or machined ti clip. You should get that too.

IMHO the PM2 is quite unique in the fact that what makes is strengths for some is what makes it wrong for others...

It as a fine tip:
Good if you use you knife for piercing or precise tasks
Wrong, if you use your knife for prying

It as a poor blade to handle ratio
Good, f you need to have a full grip on your knife or if you wear gloves
Wrong, if you need a compact edc with lots of blade for the size

It has a choil
Good, if you like to choke up or use you knife in different grip position
Wrong, if you need more cutting length and only use you knife in regular grip

It has a compression lock
Good, if you like it ;)
Wrong, if you don't

It has many colors/steel options
Good, if you are a collector or a steel geek of some sort... or if you prefer one specific steel for your use
Wrong, if you really don't care and don't like those stupid color schemes

The tip is not strong. my s30v paramilary fell off the kitchen counter to the laminated kitchen floor and about an 1/8" of the tip broke off . I only had it for 2 days so this sucked. The handle is comfortable, but just too long compared to the blade length in my opinion. As an edc and my average sized hands, the blade to handle ratio is not for me. The g10 will wear away on your pocket but sands down easily. Other than that, the paramilitary 2 is very light and comfortable user for a 3.5" blade. The compression lock is awesome.

I handled a PM2 for the first time today, owned around 20 different SPydercos but never touched a PM2. The model I looked at was a blurple S110V. I really liked it and may have to get one sometime.

Take a hard look at the Manix 2 also, it's about the same size but has a less pointy blade and can be found in a variety of steels and colors.

I personally am partial to the Manix, the PM2 has never really "sung" to me.

Very good edc blade.

I've been around this forum long enough to figure out that a lot of people are interested in knives only for profit. They buy and sell to make money and never really are interested in using the knives.

There are some people that buy knives because they are interested, but they are also fickle. So they buy one, decide they don't really like it when they have it in their hand, or they later get tired or it, so they sell it. Then they buy something else. Or maybe they do like the knife but they sell it so they can use that money to buy something else.

Then there are the few people like me that actually buy knives to use. I still sell some that don't work out as well for me but I have 5 PM2s and I use all 5 of them.

i say if you dont like the PM2, try the Manix2, i like and own one of each. just use them for different things.
