Convince me to buy the BK7!

Hello to all that are reading this.

I already own a BK2, and a BK9. I love 'em both, but I find that the BK9 is slightly to large for finer tasks, and needs to be parred with a smaller blade. The BK2 I absolutely love, but I find myself needing a slightly longer blade for batoning.

So I have been considering the BK7 (and maybe a custom sheath). A perfect mix between the BK9 and BK2. Not so big that I cant complete finer tasks, lighter then the BK2 = easier to carry, longer then the BK2 = better for batoning larger logs.

Now here is my problem. If you have read some of my other posts, you will already know this.
I'm 14, I do yard work for my money, and cant just blow $80 on a knife willy nilly.
Right now, I have $40 cash. It will be about a week and a half before my next job.

So I was thinking of selling my Fallky A1 on YouTube, because I cant sell it here without a gold membership.

I need you to convince me that I should buy the 7. Show me pictures of yours, hard use, or glamour shots. Tell me how you like the (or don't like) the BK7 compared to the others.

Thanks for your time guys (and gals)
Splitter

I don't think the 7 is gonna do anything you can't already do with either the 2 or the 9, i'd keep the a1

The thing I don’t really like about the A1, is the handle is kraton which is really soft and shows wear very easily, where as Becker handles are made of grivory, and man! They are tough! They dont hold orders like kraton does, it does not wear like kraton does, and they wont rot like kraton will.

I also prefer the 1095 cro-van of the Beckers, compared to the lamenet VG-10 of the A1, which is a really hard steel, and is prone to chipping in a larger “survival” blade. I have used my 2 and 9 in all conditions, from -45 Celsius, to +30 Celsius. Also after about 10 min of use with my A1, I have a blister at the base of my right index finger. I REALLY like the ergos of Beckers more. So all in all, I was probably going to sell the A1 anyway.

The BK7 was my first Becker and it is (IMO) the most versatile of the Becker line up. It can do everything the 2 and 9 can do, and do it well! It's lighter than the 2, and shorter than the 9, so I find it easier to carry on the belt.

I think you should get it. If for no other reason than to simply round out your collection. I understand you work hard for your money, so don't rush it. Just put back a little at a time, and seriously consider if it's what you really want.

Either way, sounds to me like you've got a pretty good start on some really good knives!

Here's a glamour shot of mine right after I got a leather rig made for it!

You don't wanna get a 7. The two and the 9 are all you really need, but I do love my 7 though :D

Thanks for the wright up and the pics! I really like your sheath!
I am pretty set on getting the BK7 right now.
Thanks guys!

Go for it. I've got a TexasHuntCo fieldmaster, as well as a custom kydex sheath by Hunkachunka for mine.

The 7 is a little bigger than I like for belt carry, I generally don't like going over 5" or so, but it is a great knife. When I bring it into the bush I usually carry it in my pack, then put it on my belt when I stop for camp or somewhere I'm going to be doing some work with it.

If I was stuck in a "one tool" situation, there's a decent chance the BK7 would be what I grab.

I have a camillus made BK7 and I loved it when I got it but it got pushed aside (by some Other far more expensive brand) I think you would like it they are a great knife I think I would still use mine if I had the micarta scales. If you have a A1 you could post a for trade thread and get a BK7 and something else if the A1 is in new condition.

get a mora to pair it up with the bk-2 and bk-9...ah, to be 14 again and have that much spare money. i remember when i was your age most of my money was spent on buying pr0n mags at the local news stand. haha. thank goodness for the interwebs for you kids.

Well guys, I just worked out a trade with my friend Mike, (gavkoo) on YouTube. I gave him first dibs on my A1 before I put it up for sale on YouTube. I wanted $160 for it because it is used. But I asked Mike for $110 plus a kydex sheath for my BK7.

He ended up buying me a BK7 from the states, because its a lot cheaper then where I could get it from in Canada, and he does not have a stock BK7, so he couldn't make a sheath for it if I were to buy it myself.

So all In all, I send him my used Fallkniven A1, and he sends me a new BK7, an OD green kydex sheath for the BK7, a kydex sheath for my little brothers BK11, pancake style (rivets all the way around the sheath) with safety orange on the front, blue on the back, with a blood red fire steel loop, and one of his custom widgydashies with an orange kydex sheath.

Here is a link to Mike's blog, with most of his prices for different size sheaths. He also takes custom orders. The widgydashies are right at the top.

Take a look at the “bad-ass BK2 OD green kydex sheath going to Canada”...that’s mine: )

I already have a mora, there good knives for the price, but for 10 moras, you could have a Fallkniven F1, which is my absolute favourite “small” bushcraft knife, and no mora will ever replace my F1. I wanted the BK7 sort of as a do it all type of knife, a jack of all trades if you will. My “jack of all trades” knife is, as of right now, the BK2. But after a full day of testing, I found myself needing more length, while still being belt carry friendly. Hence the BK7.

I reverse myself. You reasoned it out and make a great well thought out argument. I concur, Proceed young man.
Besides, there's a huge difference between wanting and needing.

After a while it gets harder to rationalize another knife when you have all the slots filled, particularly if you use them for specific camping\ hunting\fishing needs. Unless of course, you collect. I go through mini fazes of buying\giving away. I really find it hard to buy a 3rd or 4th knife that does the same thing as the first. If you want all the Beckers to have them all, rock it. I'm tired of following the herd mentality. About all I'm interested in now are the Tweeners. This does not mean that I don't appreciate Mr. E's other designs, or don't feel loyal to the brand. Do what feels right to you, not anyone else.
