Convince me.

Pretty sure he said that tongue-in-cheek, was just being playful. I think he was just looking for people to say "No, you're not clinically insane for spending $1k on a knife"

Seconded. OR two Spydercos and a nice Microtech.

A basic new Sebenza 31 runs $455, currently (e.g., at KSF, in Magnacut). Which 4 Spydercos in a fancy steel or 2 and a Microtech in that size (3.6” blade) would you buy for that ?

If you have to be convinced, you probably don't really want it.

I think you should buy something that really excites you instead.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. I've personally never quite understood the mentality behind "which should I buy next" or "convince me to buy" threads. In all of my hobbies of collecting, and increasingly with increasing price, from knives to watches to vehicles; I've only been tempted to buy the things that reach out and grab me, smack me upside the head and say "YOU MUST OWN ME", to the point where they consume my free thoughts. I know what speaks to me, and I tend to know it instantly when I see it.

They're nice, but boring. I didn't keep my Sebenza very long before I grew tired of it.

And if you lose any one of those knives, you won't be extraordinarily pissed off like you would if you lost a CR. And. You'd still have 3 knives left over.

You don't sound like a knife enthusiast. You sound like a bean counter or insurance agent. 🥳

(Buy what you like, (better yet, love), and can comfortably afford.)

They offer a good variety of left handed models, they include the Allen wrench for taking it apart along with some grease and loctite. I guess they figure it’s easy enough for a first time owner to maintain their knife. For me, it’s the best work knife that I own. I don’t worry about dirt, dust, sand, mud affecting the function of the knife other than it looking nasty.
I try to encourage the people I’m around to buy quality tools. A CRK is the only knife I own that some of my co workers are impressed with. Believe it or not, some people don’t care for flippers. My Shirogrov’s don’t get the same level of being impressive as a CRK. I don’t understand it.
I carry two knives daily, I reach for a CRK more than the other carry knife.

The same could be said for ten or more good budget knives. I already posted my only Sebenza, which will go well over a grand once all the mods are done. A valid question is how much happiness or utility it will actually bring me, and how those answers stack up versus the overall cost. It's possible that it will become my favorite knife but having been down roads like this in the past, it's also possible that it'll spend most of its time in my collection as an expensive paperweight. (I'll be glad to reflect on that when I get it back.)

Meanwhile, I just picked up the new Drop Bear 2 with a compression-style button lock from Kizer. It has a snappy detent, great action, solid lockup, comfy Micarta scales, and a thin "slicey" blade in Nitro-V. Heck, I think it even runs on multi-row bearings. I'm super psyched about it and it cost me around fifty bucks.

I would just wish I’d lost the dog tag :)

You can buy quite a few more SAK and Opinels though. Of course they don’t have S&W or H&K labels either.

Jokes on you. I happen to have a a SAK made by Opinel with HK on one side and Smith on the other. I use it to sharpen straws. Because nothing gets under thin skin like sharp straw, right?

Software developer, actually. But close. I am indeed a knife enthusiast, just not going to drop a grand on a folder. I like USEFUL knives that I can carry, abuse, sharpen, and won't need meds if I lose it.

I dont remember reading anywhere in the forum rules that you had to like ALL knives. I guess I should go back and read the fine print. Like a good bean counter or insurance agent would.

I've already posted (a few times) in this thread that one shouldn't buy if one wasn't all in and that there is no shame in not gravitating toward a particular knife or brand.

Don't be so thin skinned. You opened yourself up to a bit of blow-back by pontificating above. You'll know when I'm coming down on you, and there won't be a silly emoji attached.

Well, if you have more than one very modest knife, you have been foolish with your money. I guess that makes us ALL poor stewards of our resources. 🙂

Don’t cast stones.

To me the Sebenza's are nice but I don't like the new 31's. I looked at them for years now and even handled several years in a. row at the Blade Show in Atlanta and it is to far a deviation from the 21 ... or even the better Regular. ..

I don't know if any knife people even know what a Regular Sebenza is.
