Cookin oil as a quench for carbon steel

fast quenching oil is required for large cross section, something like a mace or axe might need that. for a knife blade as thin as 3~5mms, almost any oil in your kitchen will work fine. heat it up to 60°C and it will be fast enough.

however i would suggest using something cheaper than oliv oil. it work better for bread than steel.
 
Cooking oil makes for a better quenching fluid than quenching fluid makes for a cooking oil…
