Everyone,

Please welcome forumite TwinBlade to our Wilderness forum. He's an excellent contributor over at Knifeforums, and I thought I'd show you his and Nechako's outstanding videos on convex sharpening:

Convex sharpening - dull edge to shaving sharp (by Nechako):

Honing a convex edge (by Twin Blade):

Nice stuff, TwinBlade! And, of course, Nechako!

Brian, just a quick note of correction. :foot:

That first video is by Nechako.

The second one is indeed by our friend Jeff (a.k.a. TwinBlade).

Both good videos.

Thanks for putting that up. Those were a very simple but good instructive demonstrations. I have not had much luck with convex edges but I picked up some good pointers. For one thing, I have not been using as steep of angle as they do. Gotta go try one.

you're welcome, Jim!

No problem my friend, …just trying to keep you on the trail. ;)

What ever would I do without you, big guy? :D

Thanks for the correction!

Oh man that is great. No messy honing oil to mess with and simple items to carry and get.
I think I might be sold on going to convex now.

Gee, thanks, Brian.
I have been avoiding those videos becaus of dial-up and now I will have to try to sneak a peek from work.

If I get fired....... you, Nechako and Twinblade are responsible!:foot:

Welcome, Twinblade, Nechako. Haven't "seen" you guys in a while because of my crappy phone line woes.

Excellent stuff there!
Thanks for putting this up Brian..

Welcome Twinblade.

great stuff....

it's nice to have you here twinblade....:D it all started for me over at the barkie forum on KF..:) i don't hang out there nearly as much as i used to, i do drop bt a few times a week... and yes, i am still a barkie-holic...:o

Great information, will come in handy to mantain the convex edges on my barkies.
Thanks Brian

Brian, you gonna make me blush...LOL!

Ok first of all, thanks to all for the hearty welcome. Secondly, Brian, I am just glad to be of help to try to educate. A man like you can surely understand this. :D If someone, anyone, can get a little something out of what I put up, I am a happy fella.

Now, I have aspirations...maybe tomorrow when I wake up and brew a coffee...maybe 3, and get the kids in check :D ... to do a video on how I sharpen a machete sized blade to razor sharp using the same set-up. Would anyone benefit from this? The longer edges are a little trickier to do in one swipe, but I have a fairly decent system to doing it. I have the KSF Machete and it has a 13 1/2" cutting edge so it is a good role model.
