Cool Drug Store Case Display

Very nice! You used to see displays like that all the time, but not so much nowadays, unfortunately. I can vividly remember drooling over similar displays as a kid, when my granddad would take me with him to the hardware store.

I too go out of my way to buy from brick and mortar stores, especially for traditional knives, and especially for Case. Nothing beats being able to sit and handle a bunch of knives before you purchase them!

I'm extremely fortunate that a local drugstore has a Case display that looks like this:

(and that's only about 1/4 of it!)

You found my honey hole!

Here is a pic I took a few years ago, and there is more, you just can't get it all in one picture.
Comparing the pictures, it looks like we were there at almost the same time :)

We just lost a Schrade display like that when a local fishing/hunting store closed down. Had a few USA Schrade trappers and med stockman's, but way overpriced- $40 each area. I offered close to double what low price on eBay was to try and work a deal for both of us. No moved stock means no bills paid, next time I drove by they were closed down. Hope the display went home with the owner- hate to see a auction dealer get it rather than a knife nut.

Thanks for the pictures.

Yup. That's the place! It's my "honey hole" as well, has been for a while. They've expanded a bit since your picture was taken, adding three or four more large cases, taking over the area where the blood pressure thing is in your image. :) They're a Case master dealer now. I've spent a lot of time there, and bought a LOT of knives from these great folks. It's pretty much heaven on earth for a new production Case collector like myself. :)

The only places around here that have Case displays are feed/hardware stores (2 that I know of), and a bakery(!) in a town about an hour north of here. I love going into the bakery to get some fresh goodies, and while my wife is picking them up I'm ogling the knives.
I have a feeling I might be picking something up this summer when we're out that way, just to support local business, you know :D

Yes, I used to see those displays too. Not any more around here, except in dedicated sporting goods or outdoors stores.

What happened is that they also had Schrade displays, even after they went to the Chinese mfr. They looked good, and people can't resist a low price. They convince themselves that the product is just as good. (and maybe it is, for their needs) Case has not done a good job of keeping their prices down. For instance, the US-made Buck knives are just as well-made as Case; they are just not as well-polished, and no bone scales.

Really nice to see some knife displays, not as many of those around as there should be anymore. I remember as a kid standing at those displays and just wishing I could have one of each. Didn't see many Case displays down home, mostly Schrade with the occasional Buck display.

Thanks for posting this. I haven't seen one of these in some time now. Sad these are not the common site that they once were. Most of the knife displays seen now have mostly imported stuff from you know where.

BTW, you can't fault a man who has a thing for the older ladies. :D

Very nice
Too bad you don't see that over here.
I think they would have to tear me away from it on closing time.
Even when I arrived on opening time..

When I was a kid, and they still had those kind of displays in hardware stores, I left my share of nose prints on glass displays.

Carl.

That's cool. Thanks for sharing.

A number of years back, our local Tru Value store had some nice Schrade knives in their display. Now they're the Imported flavor of the week. Yuck...

I was there two weeks ago but I haven't taken a photo since that one. Great guys!

I found a small Case knives display at our local Tractor Supply store this morning. Now I just walked over to it to have a look. I really had no intention of buying anything. I did however leave there with a new cv bladed Sodbuster jr. It is really well put together and I am really glad I bought it.
