Cool Hammers (What do you like?)

I just checked out Tai's website and noticed a photo of a 3 lb. prototype. That might be a bit more practical in size for me than his 4 pounder. I may have to keep an eye out to see how his hammer line develops.

I've enjoyed my Caffrey angled pien, though I've had very limited time to use it.

I also REALLY like the look of that Tai/Nathan colaboration hammer.

Hi Allen, I've been testing the 3 pound prototype, and think it's probably a better general forging hammer, but there's still a few things I can do better with the 4 pounder. Not sure when I'll have a batch of the 3lb hammers yet though... saving my pennies.

Here's a couple more shots of the #3 prototype.

Probably not the style your after but worth a look

Actually those look to be right up my alley. Do you know of a site where he sells them or a price range on these? He appears to do some nice work. Plus he mentions Bob Patrick who I have a lot of respect for. (p.s. if you are looking for tongs I would suggest talking to Bob as he makes some really nice and reasonably priced tongs.)

First off, HAPPY BE-LATED BIRTHDAY!!! :)

I really want a Hofi style too Allen.

Got to mess around with a some in that style made by Tom Clark, but they were all made for right handed people (had a definitively right handed shape) and I had never seen how Hofi works.

Since then, I have watched the video with Hofi himself, as well as the ones with his apprentice and it's very interesting. They are very particular about ergonomics and have a lot of really good points and ideas about forging body-mechanics.

It might not be all that special but I love my 1500gram French Style Peddinghaus... what a coincidence that I just dressed it today, too.

French? Those arms should be up in surrender. :)

Hofi hammer as the principle hammer but you need a bunch of others too have fun. The Hofi and a really nice vintage rounding hammer are my favorites though.

I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Hofi's an approx. 2.2lb forged hammer and his 3lb. cast hammer. I think I am going to like them as I already use a hammer with the handle shaped similarly to what Hofi does and I have used a Tom Clark hammer and liked it.

The problem is that I now also want a cutlar's hammer, and a rounding hammer, and a diagonal peen hammer... I think I may have just got hooked on a new addiction.

Here are the hammers I ended up with. A pair of Hofi's on is the 3 lb. cast model and the other is the 2.2 lb. forged hammer. I haven't had the chance to use them yet, but I am looking forward to it.

p.s. I would still like to see more cool hammers...

Good stuff Allen...

I just dropped the hammer on a hammer too.... I ordered one of Kenon's 2.5lb Japanese type.

I've also taken matters into my own hands and am reforging a 3lb ballpeen into something that resembles a hammer..... pics when I'm done.

Those are very sweet! I definitely need one.

Be sure and post some pictures when you get it. And I'll be waiting for your hammer forging shots.

I have 2 hammers that take care of 95% of my forging. A 3# Hofi and a 2# reground ball peen.
Allen, you are going to love those Hofi hammers.

I just picked up a new rounding hammer made by Bob Patrick. He is a talented blacksmith and my go to guy for tongs. A nice hammer for one of the cheapest prices I have found for a hammer not made in a factory.

Here is his website: http://www.ahilltopforge.com/

Nice to see you on here! After seeing Tom's hammer in his office I think I will have to be officially jealous. Now not only do I need one of his axes I need a hammer as well.
