Cool use for a Harpy

Hey folks,

I had two gentlemen come into the knife shop that I work at the other day, looking at Spyderco knives. They were interested in the Harpy, because they were using Harpies exclusively for a fairly specialized task:

It turns out they bolt them onto the "hands" of deep-sea atmospheric suits (read big suits that make you look like the Michelen man and allow you to do stuff really deep underwater) for use in situations where they need to cut rope and the like. The reasons they've chosen the Harpy are:

-stainless handle allows for drilling and bolting onto the suit
-hooked, serrated blade makes it easier to cut with one pulling back motion
-opening hole makes it easy to open with the opposite "hand"
-relatively sturdy and reliable, although they made mention that these knives took a beating and several had been snapped during use, especially by the "new guys:

They ended up picking up a Sharpmaker to sharpen the Harpies with, and I got quite a grin from hearing yet another innovative use for these multipurpose knives. This experience rated fairly high on the cool factor for me.

If you want more info, check out www.oceanworks.com

If you find their videos, check out the second one in the list: somewhere near the beginning you'll be able to see the Harpy bolted to one of the hands.

Thought you folks would like to hear this.

That settles it, we need and ALL H1 Superhawk. I know the next time I get in my deep sea atmospheric suit, I will be wishing for one.
