Unfortunately, attendance at the Knife Show in Ct. this weekend was unbelievably low. By afternoon, there was only a handful of people left (that's what they get for not advertising and having an event Superbowl Sunday!!). We met some really great people though, and got to say hello to a few old friends as well.

We came home with a few prototypes left. Each is marked: PROTOTYPE X of 5.

Specs:
D2 Steel
3.5" blade (sharpened)
Interchangeable/removable grips (Micarta or orange G-10)
Lanyard hole and Lanyard
Laser engraving: Left grip only. ALL have room on the right grip for your custom engraving, if desired. (extra charge)
Handmade Leather sheath from Treestump Leather

You can read about the knives and us here:www.downeastknife.com We have already begun building the serial numbered knives (1-25). For those of you who ordered one, we are still on schedule for a April 1st delivery date.

These are $300.00 each, plus $10.00 shipping in the USA via USPS Priority Mail, insured for the purchase price. Paypal and Money Orders accepted.

We will ship outside of the USA, but there are some very specific terms:
  • We will not lie on customs forms, so please, don't ask.
  • You are required to pay the actual shipping amount, with insurance. Full payment must clear before shipping.
  • We can not be responsible for your knife after it leaves the USA.
  • If your country's customs holds it, seizes it, or your country's delivery system loses it, we will not be responsible.

Questions and paypal to downeastknifecompany@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Scott

Those look great Scott, I was wondering what you have been up to...great stuff. Gene

If you can not sell these with various logos , it would because you did not show then to anyone .

Modified original post: Worldwide Shipping Now Available.

I talked it over with Lamont, and we decided to offer these to folks outside of the USA as well. Please read our modified terms and conditions in the original post, and fully understand them. PLEASE, ask your questions before purchasing.

We will work with you, but we must protect ourselves and our reputation as well. Unfortunately, we've both had some negative experiences with this in the past, so we're both a little gun-shy. Since we've received more than a few requests lately, we're willing to give it another try.

Thank you for your understanding.
Lets give it a try.

Start-ups are hard. And once you start getting more exposure outside of Knife forums and the knife community, things should pick up. It is one thing to sell a single custom to a knowledgeable community, another to get the attention of hunters, fisherman, and campers.

Don't get discouraged.
My mother in-law owned a shop near Pemaquid Point (before she retired due to medical reasons) and her drive by business was good. But once we had gotten her website up and started posting Made in Maine items on eBay and some other locations things picked up well. Heck, we even turned 100 Cabbage patch dolls she bought on a lawn sale for $1000 into $5000 in sales by posting on eBay and finding the 1980s collector groups.. hehe.

You have a good product, a good internet tool in your website, and enthusiasm and drive. From there it will just take some targeted marketing and patience. It takes a while and a bit of effort to get interest up. I still can not believe how fast you have pulled all the resources together. :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

We are currently corresponding with several large (and a few local) distributors of sporting goods, firearms, and other outdoor outfitters to supply them with these custom handmade knives. I think we're getting close!

That is what the store is for... for that day when you get your 2008 Economic Stimulus package from President Bush. ;)

Hi Scott, did Harley Davidson get after you for using thier shield without permission ??

I used to make some H.D. jewelry and knives in Alaska, they sent a lawyer to AK to tell me I could not use thier logo unless they told me to whom when and where and how many pieces i could sell with thier logo, and they wanted my masters of said pieces.

I told them to fugg off, and will not make anything to give them free advertising ever again, Now I ride a Roadstar, sold my Harley's too.

Nope, and I want to keep it that way!

I couldn't resist doing just this one. When I saw the logo in the laser engraver's shop, I just knew it would look awesome on the orange G-10 grips. Together with the black oxide blade, and black leather sheath, it just reminds me of a Harley (even without the symbol).

I'm probably just going to keep it for myself anyway. I don't need the aggravation that it could bring.

Scott-

I just got mine in the mail- and I just wanted to let everyone else know--

If you have not purchased one of these DO NOT WAIT.

This knife is sweet.

thanks again and I look forward to the other designs that will be coming.

Hey guys, Now that I'm back online I thought I'd chime in on these knives. Scott and I are making one of these for ourselves to USE! I'm hard on equipment, especially knives, but that gives me a good "feel" for how a knife will perform under...hehe..NORMAL use. I know that with Paul Boss's heat treatment, especially with the cryo treatment, these knives are going to perform super well. I have used D-2 many times, heat treated myself, and gotten unbelievable edge holding. I can't immagine what it will be like with a cryo treat on top of that, but I'm really anxious to see for myself. Once I get some real data to report, I'll post it here for all you guys to see. Maybe some pics too, so stay tuned guys!
