Hi everyone!

Here is a link to the progression thread I did of the Ring Guard Bowie. Click Here.

I had SharpByCoop take a picture of the knife and he did a GREAT job!

Thanks for the GREAT picture Mr. Cooper.

Here is a link to a video Caleb made of me spinning the knife. (and cutting myself :o) Click Here.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to make this knife Kevin.

Thanks for looking everyone!

I'd eat that ivory! Great knife, again.

Regarding the spinning video... you just HAD to? Your face at the end is like "why did i just do this?" Haha

A great job indeed on that pic. There's a lot to communicate with this piece, and Coop managed to do it in one shot without making things overly crowded. And again, that's just a fantastic knife.

PS - December's just around the corner folks, this seems like an opportune time to remind you all to start getting your pics together for Best Bowie 2009. :)

As Roger stated, a lot going on in a single image. And, masterfully done. Tremendous result all around on this one.

By every measure this knife and it's maker deserve top billing. I am only the photographer for our visual posterity.

As you folks ALL know, Kyles work is sensational. I was as impressed as anyone with the detail and craftsmanship, and I have many bases of comparison. :)

This piece carries the valuable CoolFactor™ and it's because of its versatility. Yes, this photo shows all the elements as proudly and as unobtrusively as I could. I am thankful you appreciate and recognize this feature.

Kyle, Caleb is making us all smile with his work. He keeps ME on my toes!

(Next time you mention my name in a Subject line, I am going to CLOBBER ya'! ) :p

Regards,

Coop

Great knife and fantastic pics

Congrats to all involved

Kevin I know you are smileing

Coop really did a super job on this photo. It helps to start with a great knife.

Kevin, for gawdsakes, please put a little electrical tape over that edge when you try and spin it.
The world doesn't need any more one armed custom knife collectors.

Kyle- you're NUTS!:)

Great photo Coop.
Perfect example of a photo being worth a thousand words as you told the entire story in a single beautiful image.

In looking at Kyle's scary video I believe I will take it as proof that the knife will twirl as intended.:eek: No need in my becoming proficient in this task as it looks as one could possibly bleed-out trying. ;)

But seriously, I received this knife about a week ago and the fit, finish and execution is outstanding. So much so that I examined the knife under good light and magnification which is often a bit of a let down even thought it's possibly beyond expectations for a knife to hold up to full expectations under such scrutiny. Not the case here, as this closer look raised my appreciation of Kyle's talent.

The knife finished out at the designed 9" blade and 14" OAL. Obviously, Kyle realized early on considering the substantial handle that he may have a weight/balance problem. This enticed him to cut as much weight out of the internal handle components. The result was a knife that balances right at the guard, important if the bowie was to actually function as a ring guard bowie.

Ivory selection is always like rolling the dice in regard to how the color and texture is going to finish out. I feel Kyle really maxed out the ivory's potential here in providing a nice uniform shape/finish without losing the character and brilliant color. I sold to a friend a very similar piece of ivory that was from the same tusk as these scales knowing Kyle had his to use. Sorry I sold them now.

The "ring guard" is quite spectacular on it's own. The detail in the clamshells and especially the cleanness where the the ring transitions into the clamshell palm and guard is amazing (basically seamless). This transition is where I was most worried considering the rough forging Kyle started with.

The sheath, considering Kyle has not made many over the year and a half he's been offering them, was probably my biggest surprise of all. It's even nicer than the photos depict. I can envision Kyle someday offering knife/sheath packages along the quality of Tim Hancock and Larry Fuegen.

In commissioning a knife, there's always at least one thing in the end that leaves me wondering if it should had been done differently. NOT this time.

Thank you Kyle for taking the considerable time from your busy knife build schedule and making the effort to create this beautiful work of fully functional art.

What's the use in trying to come up with the words that can put the shot AND the knife into perspective.

Nothing really good can come of anything unless you have the right material(s) to work with at the start. Kyle's parents obviously did - look at Kyle. Kyle certainly did, look at what he created. And Coop did, look at what he shot.

From start to finish, all the right materials.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the great review. I really appreciate it.

I hope the knife will give you many years of pleasure when you look at it or when you play with it or when you use it.

It was a pleasure working with you on this knife and thanks for giving me the opportunity to make it.

Kyle
