A coote is great for the money but if I had to do it over I would just grab a KMG with an 8" wheel, tooling arm, flat platen, and a small wheel or two for handles and what not (1" diameter and/or less for sure - definitely easier to use on a KMG). You could always protect the platen with a ceremaic or glass for pretty cheap and pick up the pulleys else where. I don't really use any rests or tables now though a table could and at one time did come in handy for profiling. I have a coote with a 10" wheel, disk attachment, several small wheel attachments, table/rests, etc. You really don't need much to get started and having too much at once can make your growth rather stagnant. If I were to buy a coote again it would only be because I could not afford the KMG and I would get one with a 8" wheel at most. 8" is pretty damn versitile.
