Hello!

So I think I am going to buy a Coote belt grinder. I was either thinking a Coote grinder or Grizzly but I'm going with a Coote.

I need some help with choosing a motor. He said to choose a 1725 rpm 1 HP TEFC motor. I have three that I am interested in currently (If you guys have better suggestions please let me know). The three I'm looking at will be at the bottom.

I also don't know about the wiring aspect. Do I need to be able to solder and wire? Are there any guides out there for this?

Other than the Motor and Grinder do I need anything else? I saw some setups and they all had wheels on the shafts for the pulley. What are those? Should I get a Ceramic Platen?

Thanks, Nathan

Hey Nathan,

I would say that you should stick around the 1.5- 2hp motors for the Coote. I have a 1.5 and I grind the hell out of some steel.

Save yourself some headache and get an electrician to wire you up with a nice cord and a switch. I am by no means a handy guy with these things and like plug and play stuff.

Norm Coote sells all the pulleys and accessories on his site. You can get a step pulley from him I believe. I just rigged up a couple 6in pulleys from Tractor Supply co. just to test the damn thing and ended up never changing it.

Glass platen - OMG YES. Just do it. Trust me. Norm sells these too.

Good luck! I love my Coote.
