Not looking to get into a "what grinder should I get?" thread... for reasons specific to my situation his 2x48 machine looks very attractive, but I'm still looking for answers on a few thing, specifically how the Cootes operate in regards to tracking.

I've seen people saying they track well, but also that adjusting said tracking can be fiddly. Anyone with any experience that can tell me how it works on this machine? Are tools required, or is there a knob somewhere that I am missing in the pictures I have seen?

Cheers!

Never heard of them.. But a quick Google, they don't look bad. Might have to look into replacing my 1x30...

I had one. There was a nob on the top wheel. It worked fine, but you could push the belt around when doing plunges. I think this is the case with all 2 wheel grinders, but I'm not sure. Mine was a good grinder, but I like my esteem much better. I would have been money ahead if I bought the esteem first. My buddy has my Coote now, and it works good for his needs. I had the 2x72 with 10 wheel

Thanks Cody, I was hoping it was something that simple, just couldn't tell. On my current grinder (an old Dayton 2x53.5" machine) tracking adjustments require a 10mm wrench and a 3mm Allen key. That gets old pretty quickly lol!

I still have my 10" x 72" Coote. Just like Cody says, there is a screw knob on the top wheel that tilts the wheel for belt tracking left/right. The wheel is sprung mounted and there is a small amount of adjustment you can do on the spring too (some 72" belts are shorter than others). The belt can be moved when cutting plunges, but not that hard to live with. Tracking adjust is easy when the belt is turning.

I have a 10" 2x72 Coote also. Tracking on mine is a screw with a wingnut in it to act as a knob, and a jamb nut to lock the adjustment in place. It will walk if the jamb nut is not at least finger tight. As mentioned by everyone else I also have problems pushing the belt side to side when putting load on the belt that is not perpendicular to it. I don't do much grinding on a day to day basis so I'm satisfied with it, but I will be upgrading to an interchangeable tool arm style of machine at some point.
